jamie6girl..that's what i thought too.

i am just going to stick with...'because i qualify for it.' that is good, simple, to the point and hopefully will nip it in the bud there. if not, if they persue it again, i think i'll smile and say 'why do you want (or need) to know?' ***** my head and wait for them to answer

thanks everyone.

I've never had anyone ask me that, but that's because every sort of healthcare provider I have, needs to know I have CF. I don't see why you wouldn't tell them to begin with since they always ask if you have other health problems, or what medications you are on. I just don't see any way around it. Even my eye doctor knows, since I have CFRD he makes sure my eyes are doing ok and such. (though now that I think about it, I'm not even sure cfrd produces the same eye problems that regular diabetes does...)

Anyway, yeah, I suppose, if they are being rude, I'd just say 'Because I qualify for it' but in most cases they should know anyway. Now, if they know you have CF already and ask, they're just dumb.

I agree that the front office person in the doctors office does not need to know why you have medicare. They simply need insurance information to process the claim.

The nurses at the office on the other hand alot of times do not know what your coverage is unless they have to send any type of testing in like blood or set you up for any other testing. But I am a Medical Assistant in a doctors office for the last 15 years and when a new patient comes in and has Medicare I am going to ask. Mainly because it is my job in my office to record medical history and if you have a diagnosis that qualifies you for Medicare it is very important to have this in your chart.

Like some of the previous people said it is important to tell your healthcare providers that you have CF.

I agree when you are in the waiting area or where there are other patients in ear shot no one should ask you those questions.
