My daughter has just been diagnosed with liver disease (cirrhosis) She has been put on Ursofalk.

and he mentioned to limit use of panadol.

Does anyone have a natural way to relieve pain?

also she is going to have the scan where they go into a tunnel (can't remember the name of it)

has anyone had one of these for scanning the liver, pancreas ect..?
Want to tell Kj what to expect before she has it.

we were also told her pancreas isnt functioning well and that she is borderline diabetic.

She also has mild hyperparathyroidism from lack of vitamin D. Anyone else have this?

HATE going to clinics!! only ever get bad news.

Good news is that her lung function is back in the eighties (83%)
from being 63%.

The tunnel test may be an MRI??? I have had a few of those and the most annoying part for me was having to wear ear plugs (I hate putting stuff in my ears). It was a little claustrophobic at first, but I just closed my eyes and sang songs in my head to distract myself (99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beeeeer). Also if KJ has a port, they will ask her to lay with her arms folded over it...the MRI is a magnetic field and they want to protect against the port being pulled (since it has metal in it apparently). When they told me this, I freaked out thinking I would feel it pulling in my chest, but that didn't happen at all. It was just a precaution. Some people get panicky when going through the tunnel. If this happens they will usually offer an anti-anxiety medication. If you or she thinks this might happen talk to the doc ahead of time so she can get the med and let it start working before the scan begins. If KJ is at all uncomfortable or freaked out once the scan starts, she can talk to the technician and ask them to stop and pull her out. She will be alone in the room, but they will be able to hear her and they should be extremely concerned with making her as comfortable as possible (at least, this is how my experience was). One last thing...I am a skinny girl and I remember thinking, geez how do normal sized people even fit in here? it's definitely a tight squeeze.

Glad KJ's lung function is back up. It's always best to give merit to the achievements, especially in the face of such adversity.

I had an MRI many years ago for my Epilepsy. I was scared to death, but it wasnt as bad as I expeted. The technicians were great. They said if you have to cough....tell us. They helped me breath thru some coughs & the bit of anxiety.

I do not like tight encloses places, but I was actually able to relax when I focused on my breathing.

I know many people who are Vitamin D deficiant, but I am not aware of an acutal name being connected to it.

Good news on the lung function. Find the silver lining among all the clouds!

My son had a really rough time with the MRI. We gave him a xanax before, but he still couldn't take the tunnel. We rescheduled at another place that has what they call an OPEN MRI. It is still like a tunnel, but one side of it is not enclosed, so he didn't feel so trapped. We still had to give him another xanax, but he made it through.

I'm sorry your daughter is having such a rough time. The increase in lung function is great though. Let us know how it goes.
