Does the HT taste bad?

I know the obvious answer...because salt water being nebbed at your nose, and throat would be a bit uncomfortable. But, our daughter screams and kicks like nothing.

She has only been on it for 6 days, but it has been awful!! It is all I can do to hold her down with the mask on her.

Is it that bad? I sit over top of her and some of the mist gets in my face, It doesn't bother me that bad. Does it burn her nose, hurt her lungs or what... she is pretty resilent so I am sure she will get used to it. Right now all I know is that she absolutely hates it by all of her screaming and kicking. Just curious to hear from those of you that can use words to describe how it feels.

Thanks-

Tiffany

What concentration are you using?

I had a very difficult time getting used to it using a traditional neb/compressor at 7% concentration. It just takes a while to get used to.

And then when I used HTS with my eFlow, holy cow! Now that was even more difficult to get used to.

So if she's having trouble, take the concentration down (maybe to 3% if you're on 7% now) and let her get used it for a few weeks. Then bump up.

it is a bit uncomfortable for the first few times but you get use to it after a few days i would suggest doing just 10 minutes every session as ive found for 3mls to be inhaled takes me something like 20 - 25 minutes

Why don´t you try it yourself? Its just saltwater, so it will do you no harm.
But you will still not know exactly how she feels with it, because everybody is different...
I tried it, but its causing too much coughing

Is it making her cough a lot? I have a love-hate thing with the HTS because it makes me feel better and everything but of course it makes me cough up a lung practically. Knowing that coughing is good for us doesn't make me anymore inclined to appreciate the induced coughing spaz.
I keep doing it of course because I do know it's good for me to cough like that and it does make me feel better...but i do also hate it.

What the others said. It's just really harsh on the lungs. It may not affect you any, but you have much better lungs than she does. Mike sort of goes "yeah I can see why this might be uncomfortable for you" but he doesn't feel what I feel when I use it.

I second what somebody else said. If she's really fighting it, drop the %. I started at 7% and couldn't take it. I've been using 3% for almost a year now. 7% would certainly be better, but my doc agreed to the 3% because I'll agree to do the 3%, and I was getting close to boycotting the 7%.

It is really salty (of course ) and that took a little getting used to, sometimes it irritates my throat, and I tried breathing it through my nose just to see what it did , and it gave me a big ol' sinus headache for the next 24 hours (will stick to regular nasal irrigation-lol).

It made me cough like crazy for at least a week, to the point that I strongly considered quitting it (was coughing more during the day, too) but now (about 2 months along) I don't cough nearly as much during treatments or after during the day, and I am finding it to be a good measure of how well I'm doing day to day (getting puny, cough more during HTS). I'm not getting the congested feeling I used to get either as often- even the day I forgot my Advair in the morning. I would do my xopenex and HTS in the morning if I couldn't do anything else, now.

If it's bothering her nose, maybe you could get little kids swimming nose clips to wear under her mask? I'm sorry, I don't know how old she is... If she is 2 or older, maybe you could offer her a treat (even a piece of candy- like an m&m- at this point) for doing it for a few seconds (to get her caught on to the idea) then a
minute (and an m&m- this will also give her a break from it), then another minute, for say, a total of 3 minutes the first time. Then 2 minutes each time, for 6 mins., etc.? Even if you are starting with the 3%. Eventually, she will get a few m&ms at the end for doing her treatment .

Also, this will also give her the chance to pick which senario she wants- mom making her do it, or doing it herself and getting a treat. Just a thought!
I guess the trick is that, (I am assuming she is young) since she probably isn't old enough to understand that this is good for her, that she needs something to make it worth it to her while if she doesn't like it . We all need that every once in a while! lol
Heck, the promise of a caramel sundae from McDonald's made my clinic appointments worth it to me as a kid! LOL

If she's younger than that- maybe this will help someone else, and I haven't helped you a bit! Sorry!
