Yes, I realize 30% is talk of tx. I also know that I don't feel like I am there. I can go from the basement to top floor and feel winded but usually with basket of clothes in my arms. I have a lot of plugging and I am trying to get them out but don't seem to have a lot of luck. I would like to try the GSH but have bleeding problems on and off, so I have to check first to see about doing that.

I realize I have limitations, and yes i do work, part-time as a graphic designer, and keep up our house, laundry, cleaning, and so on, while also doing 3 hours of therapy and nebs a day and exercising. I think all those things are great to keep me going. The last time the doc mentioned tx was two years ago after I have an upper portion of my right lobe removed, my numbers kept falling, but have been steady since that time.

My husband and I have had the talk too about being single parent when I die, a hard conversation to have. On that we are extremely realistic. I also feel that having a baby via "gestational carrier", I don't have to recover from the pregnancy - however healthy it might be. I am able to be more involved in it. We still have a lot of info to gather before we.

I just take it day at a time.

For the eliptical my recommendation would be to get a heart rate monitor, pronto! Polar is a very good brand and reasonable price. You wear strap around your chest and watch on your arm, if you have a newere eliptical your heart rate will also show on the screen. You can read in book and talk with your doc about where to keep your heart rate for where your health is at. You can also read my blog about heart rate training.

If you are letting your heart rate get too high when excercising you can damage and enlarge your heart while starving your muscles of oxygen which will decrease the postive effects and have negative effects as well on teh muscles and your activity endurance levels. Take caution, especiallywith your PFT's. Our bodies dont always let us know when to stop (or perhaps we are too bull headed to listen?), supposedly we cant work out beyond our max heart rate but I asssure you I can and have many times before getting my HR monitor, for whatver reason I feel 'good' and challenged when my HR is inthe zone where you supposedly should only be able to maintain for a "few seconds to a few minutes at max"--go figure. So my HR monitor cost $75 and has lasted past 2 years and going strong.

I have had amazing restuls with working out this year and increasing bit by bit, that and a # of other changes and I have seen over 10% PFT increase. I was VERY out of shape after having my daughter (partially due to very limited activity and a complicated miserable pregnancy as Lauren mentioned) I went from being able to do 5 minutes on the thing to doing as long as I want and upping the resistance and crossramp. I just went bit by bit and not so much that I was dying afterward or youll be too sore to do it the next day and consistency is key.

hey sarah,

i just wanted to say, good luck with your elliptical machine! i have been using them at the gym for a few years now and i really love them. i get a great work-out from it. like with a lot of kinds of exercise, you have to work up slowly. my stamina varies between when i'm feeling great (i've gotten up to 60 mins) and then i'll get a cold or something, come off ivs and need to start back down at 30 mins.

i think it is hard for beginners, though. my mom goes on for one minute and feels like she's dying! try messing around with the settings. sometimes the same resistance at a higher incline actually feels easier to do.

good luck!
