Got my Percussor

Okay I am just excited and need to share.

I had a handheld percussor used on me for CPT for the first time when I was in the hospital at the beginning of this course of IV treatment. I fell in love with the thing -- okay not literally but it worked really well for me.

I asked the doc about getting one to use in addition to the vest - so I can get more localized CPT. Well I finally got it tonight. Yay! I am going to be using it for the first time here in about 20 minutes - I am just excited lol.

I am so an old person ... YAY! *does happy dance* I just got a new piece of medical equipment lol. Geez .... oh well whatever works.

I have turned it on and it is really quiet in comparison to what the one at the hospital was and it comes with a percussor attachment, a massager attachment and another attachment that I can't recall at the moment - it is in the other room my mom is checking it out.

Well I will talk to you all later,
Lindsey

I think you will like it Lindsey. I have one also and i love it. It is more direct than the vest if you have an area that needs "fine tuning" .I'm not sure if you have the one that just vibrates or one that actually sort of works like a jackhammer, for lack of a better analogy. I have the one that worsk sort of like a jack hammer and it is great. But i also had the vibrating one they used on me when i was in the hospital years ago and that was also great. Either way....enjoy it !!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

The one that I got moves in two ways. It moves up and down - like a jackhammer type motion I guess you could say then it also moves from side to side - in the direction of an arrow that is on the machine. You just make sure the arrow is pointing in a certain direction when you hold it to your chest and it is supposed to help loosen stuff and move it in the direction of the arrow ... so not only will it loosen it, but it will help move it "out" by putting pressure in the direction it needs to go. Oh yay! I am so pumped. I am finished my nebs now and going to use it.

The good thing too is that the handle is long enough for me to use it on myself. I can get someone to do it if I am having difficulty or I can use it alone.

I am thinking I will love it (I loved the one in the hospital - it sounded like a jackhammer and worked like one) - I love manual CPT it works so much better for me ... like you said getting localized relief. I am just ready I have been so pumped for this the past 2 weeks since I got out of the hospital and was sent home on IVs.

Oooh! I always opt for the percussor when I'm in the hospital. I didn't even know it was possible to get a home-version of the Massage-o-Matic game! Coolness. *happy dancing with you* I agree, it works so much better than the vest at being localized. Another positive is that you won't have to wear a sports bra when you use it! (I hate all that jiggling around when I do the vest...ow)

MUAHAHAHAHA ... I am not well endowed to say the least ... I could go bra less and still not have that much shaking going on lol. ohhh in my dreams lol.

On a side note I used the percussor earlier and coughed up more with it than I usually do with the vest. I was able to use it for about 30 minutes. As for getting a percussor for home use - I didn't know you could get them either - I have read people on here talking of a percussor but didn't think of it really. They have always given us stuff to use that you still have to do manually kind of - like masks, little clappy things, cup type things or whatever - that is what I thought the people on here were talking about (manual percussors). When they used the one at the hospital. I asked the woman if there was a way I could get one for my house .. without having to get the air compressor attachment installed in my wall lol. She laughed and said I think so .. talk to the social worker. I spoke with the doc and wrote the script and the woman/social worker that set up the home healthcare set me up with a company to supply my meds that was also a durable medical equipment/supply company - so they supplied my IV meds, supplies and the percussor.

Maybe when you are in the hospital next time you could ask the social worker about it and the have your doc write a script for one. Or you could just ask when you go to your appointment next time. The docs office may know of a Durable Medical Equipment place that would supply it - and file your insurance for it. The company you get your air compressor for aerosol treatments would probably have them too. Definitely ask about it Lauren you would love it!!

Hi lindsey,
I am happy for you that you finally got your percussor.
I have a friend that got one and she hated it, she said it didn't work very well.

What kind did you get? Is there a brand name?

I want one for home too. I always prefer it to the vest because I have hemoptysis alot and like to stay away from the sensitive areas of my lungs. Please let me know what kind you have. Thanks

Ohh...that's exciting! I love my percussor. It has 4 different head attachments to it, its super quiet, and I find that it works a lot better then manual CPT. I'm sure you'll enjoy using it.
