Help! My sinus's are acting up! Need new suggestions

I was just in the hospital in November and got out on the 29th of november. The last two or three weeks the weather is changing. The weather has been biiter cold, cloudy and windy, beautiful fall days, rainy, foggy, and icey. Each one of these last one to two days before changing into a different weather day.
I am stuffy in the nose and coughing when I lay down. My lungs don't hurt and my chest doesn't hurt either. More than likely, the doc won't do anything.
I have been drinking liquids and water; exercising, eating right, sleeping many hours, and taking baths.
<b>how do you like to clear up a sinus infection?
How do you stop a sinus infection from going into your lungs?</b>

Hail Queen!

I don't whether you in fact do have a sinus infection. But the stuffiness is probably due to allergies (and irritants and perhaps chemical sensitivities.) Sinuses, like airways, swell from inflammation. Have you been checked for allergies recently? Also you don't have to actually have to be allergic for things to bother you, triggering an alleric-type reaction.

Do you have your mattress and pillowcase encased (they sell allergy covers in stores like BB&B)? Air filter? Do you have carpets or wood floors? A HEPA vacuum? Are you covering your nose and mouth when you go out -- bitter cold is not good. Have you had a CT scan for your sinuses? I could breathe fine through my nose, yet one side was completely blocked on one side, which was uncovered by the scan.

Do you do a nasal rinse? Take nasal sprays like Nasalcrom, Astilin, and Nasonex (under a doctor's care)? Do you use products with fragrances? Harsh cleaning products?

If your doctor doesn't do anything about your sinuses, you should see an allergist, then an ENT for evaluation. When you lie down, the sinuses slowly drain into your lungs and cause exacerbations.

It's great that you are taking care of yourself in general. But doctors don't seem to educate their patients on how their environments are harming them.

Here is just a start.

I used to irrigate with a xylitol-saline solution. Here is the recipe I used:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://healthgazelle.org/xylitolsalinesolution.shtml">http://healthgazelle.org/xylitolsalinesolution.shtml</a>
These days, I typically irrigate with either straight diet tonic water or a mixture of diet tonic water and peroxide. It can be pretty painful and using too much peroxide can promote nose bleeds. When I get a nose bleed, I lay off the peroxide, take some calcium to promote clotting and put carmex in my nose to gently clog up the bleed.

You can also nebulize with xylitol-saline to treat your lungs:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://healthgazelle.org/nebulizedsolution.shtml">http://healthgazelle.org/nebulizedsolution.shtml</a>

It also helps to wash all bedding, any throw rugs, etc. And I generally take extra vitamins and take some herbs like either olive leaf extract or oil of oregano, depending upon what I think will help. Oil of oregano is good against fungus and also is good against some things that like to attack the lungs. Olive leaf extract is a good broad spectrum anti-bacterial and anti-viral.

A warm salt water bath can be a good thing too.

Queen,

I would just like to add for you or anybody reading this, if you think you have a sinus INFECTION, you should see your doctor. Sinus infections can turn very serious if not treated. And I would be very careful putting anything into your nose other than sterile water and saline packets made for the rinses. These days with most things coming from China, I wouldn't want anything that could possibly have contamination entering my nose and ulitimately dripping into my lungs.

And I personally would not use something that caused nosebleeds. My doctor always says that it is important to "cool down" the inflammation in the nasal passages and sinuses. Certainly not irritate it. And there are people who try to use nasal rinses and get terrible pain. That means that the passages are extremely inflamed and you must NOT do nasal rinses until your doctor can prescribe something to reduce the inflammation -- usually various nasal sprays plus the patient must get rid of allegens and irritants in their environment.

Please use alternative medicine under your doctor's guidance.
