I dont have many allergies, but I have had three sinus surgeries. I can tell you from my experience that my doctors said that the best way keep sinuses from spreading to the lungs is to irrigate every day twice a day! I have a Nasilmed rinse kit that I got from my cf doctor. It may not stop an infection from spreading, but it might help reduce any post-nasal drip and help reduce the coughing. If there is any infection its best to go to the dr. possibly have a cat scan done. that will tell for sure if there is any infection in the sinuses at all. But for the most part I had to irrigate with gentamiacyn antiobiotic with the saline rinse. My tissues in my sinuses swell my nose shut often so I have to do more aggressive aproaches to keeping my sinuses clean. These methods may not be necessary for you, but its something to ask the dr. about. I hope that something helps.

Definitely check out a nose spray, like Flonase, Nasonex, Nasacort AQ. Keeping inflammation down in that area will prevent and help rid sinus infections <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My suggestion is probably too irritating for most peoples sinuses. I've found that nebbing hypertonic saline while wearing a mask helps make my nose run, which clears me out temporarily. I haven't tried Flonase but I've used Nasonex and it helps.

I have found some nice relief from starting Zithromax 3 times a week for my sinuses. Are you on that for your lungs? It also helps with the gut too.
