Sonia-I did not answer the rest because it isnot a problem for me. If I do cough stuff out it is always after the work out never during, I huff afterward on my drive in to work to get stuff loosened up. Do you have a peak flow you could monitor to make sure it is from teh extra workout and not an illness setting in?

Nicole,

It actually is exactly what I was describing in my first post... I cough stuff out later in the day or night NOT during the exercise. I don't have a peak flow cause my clinic does not believe in them and says they won't give me one since they've never found them reliable (they give different readings even when the clinic staff does them 2-3 times in a row and are just not very "close" in readings.

I don't really think its an illness cause like I said I just really upped my workout and think it would be odd if when I feel energetic enough to workout above and beyond what I used to that I'd be sick at that time, but anything's possible I guess.

Looking forward to hearing what others experience when they work out or add time or frequency to their workouts. I KNOW there are a bunch on this site that do workout and I'm sure ya'll have upped your routine once or twice.

Thanks,

Hello Sonia,

Back when I was playing tennis on a daily basis, I would become quite short of breath, [more than normal] after about 1/2 an hour of exertion, whereas when I took a necessary break between days of play, my lungs were able to cope longer without any serious degree of obstruction, ie., coughing fits whilst playing.

Eileen.</end quote>

This is very interesting to me! So, your lungs actually felt MORE SOB the more often you worked out? When you waited a day in between you were not SOB? That's really fasinating. I've never noticed that, but will keep it in the back of my mind to check for next time I do back to back workouts vs. every other day. Thanks.

Sounds normal to feel more discomfort after working out and coughing. Anytime you over exert yourself it is normal to feel tightness. There are muscles all over your chest and between your ribs. You use your breathing muscles all the time and when you push yourself beyond your normal limits, it makes sense to feel some tightness.

I also think it can be due to some CO2 trapping for some people. If you do not cough and breathe correctly during workouts, there might be an acidic build up if it is not expelled properly.just guessing here.
