I was just wondering how annoyed everyone gets by their coughing. I often get comments about how little I cough from CF moms and others. If I am being compliant with meds, my cough is very rare and I don't feel congested. I do cough on purpose during PT; but, not much else during the day. The most I get is a very dry unproductive cough before I am getting sick and that is my cue that I need to see the doc.That then turns into a productive cough over about a week and a half. I am usually never kept up at night coughing except when I am sick. I do remember as a child before we had better meds having embarassing coughing spells in class but that has been a long time. Those of you who are pretty compliant, what is your experience and are you ever embarassed by it? Just curious.

Personally I only cough right after and during my treatment of hypertonic saline. I only do it once a day so a few hours after that I'm so quiet you wouldn't even know I have CF. Ohh, and I'm never embarresesed about it, I figure it comes with the territory.

I am a cougher. Cough a fair amt, more than my brothers who both have CF as well. People at work recognize me by hearing my cough down the next corridor. I also have chronic sinusitus so I think that is the cause for my cough. I am constantly congested, even w/ nasal spray, allergy pills, and sinus surgery. What I think is interesting is how cough does not correlate to CF health. I cough more than both of my brothers and my PFT's are significantly higher than their values. Odd little disease we'all get to enjoy. <img src="i/expressions/coughing.gif" border="0">

I'm quite the cougher too and yes, it completely annoys me at times.

Pretty much if I don't do my breathing right before bed I'll be coughing all night and wake up exhausted. During the day I cough but it's usually gone for a few hours after treatment then comes back before I do the next one.

If I'm in a quiet place with people around - you can bet on it that I will be coughing and I hate that. Then throughout the day when my cough has mellowed out, I usually am always clearing my throat. I would prefer to be quieter then I am. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
