I feel like I've been kicked

Hello,

This morning I woke up to a sharp pain just under my rib cage. It was sharp enough to cut my breathing off. It was a pain that I usually associate with lots of coughing and a muscle cramp or something. I didn't recall coughing last night at all. I guess it' was possible that I did without knowing it, but I usually remember.

So I applied sharp pressure with my fingers in between the two ribs where the pain was, and eventually that helped my breathing get back to normal. I don't know why the pain occured. I figured since I was able to help by "massaging" the muscles between the ribs, that it might have just been a muscle cramp for whatever reason. Fine.

For the rest of today, I've felt like someone has kicked me in the ribs over and over, like I've been beat up. The main spot that's sore (not a sharp pain anymore) is still that one area betwen those two ribs. In addition to that spot though, I feel like someoen has kicked me all over the right side, my ribs feels bruised, but I don't believe they actually are.

At dinner, I had one loud/solid laugh and it instantly cut off my breathing. It seems something is still there, but I have no idea what this is. I don't feel like I'm getting sick, it's just this weird pain.

Has anyone experienced this or know what this could be?

I don't know if your pain is the same as I get...but when I get a sharp in lower rib area and then feel like I have been battered...it is almost always pneumonia in the lower right lobe...I hope this is not the case for you but if it persists...get to your doctor...just to be sure.

I really hope it is caused by something you did alittle out of the ordinary and you have just pulled or bruised a muscle.

Let us know what happens.

P.S. I also cough less and run no fever when I have pneumonia.

Gallbladder?

Maybe not, but I'm just throwing it out there. My sharp pain happened to me 3 times (and about 7 other times of less sharp, but still awful pain).

It was on my right side just below my ribs.

It would not hurt to go get a chest xray. Last week I had a pneumothroax and I wasnt doing anything but sitting on the bed taking meds. No coughing before, no popping, nothing. I was fine and then couldnt breathe. It felt like someone had beat me with a baseball bat from my neck to my waist. When it first happened I was in pain, but I could find a position that I could breathe easier in. It could just be a mucus plug. I had an area of isolated pain 2 months back and it felt like a stabbing pain and had trouble breathing. It went away in a few days. I'm not saying this things are what you might have, but it never hurts to get an xray to check. Better safe than sorry.

sorry to hear this, kelly. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> the thing that sucks with CF is that you never know if everything that happens to you is CF realated, or is just something that could have happened to you otherwise. i hope this clears up and you are feeling better soon.

I'm with Amy. It sounds like gallbladder. People with gallbladder flare-ups often think they are having a heart attack. Its suppose to be awful.

Maybe you should have it checked out?

Let us know how you are.
