I just wanted to share this.....especially for some of you younger CFers who are just now starting to handle some of these issues on your own.
I wanted a 2nd opinion during the winter. I wanted to go to a bigger center about 3 hours from my home with a very experienced adult staff. I did not want to wait to get an OK from the insurance company cuz I needed an opinion yesterday. So I went 3 times during the winter and just decided to appeal when they made me pay the out-of-network costs. I don't recommend necessarily doing it that way....but, I wanted help and I did not want them dictating to me where I was going to get it.
It took me six months....but, I can go there now whenever I want and they paid all my winter bills to that facility. I have appealed to my insurance company many many times and I have always eventually gotten exactly what I have needed. Unfortunately, you have to learn to fight the system and the sooner you learn that the better equipped you will be. Don't ever let them refuse to give you what you need. You always have the right to receive proper medical care and the insurance companies know that. So take a deep breath and fight them til you win. It feels good to be in control of this darn disease to some extent! If anyone else wants to share a victory against the evil insurance empire, feel free<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
