Albuterol keeps the airways open.

Keeping the airways open helps clear mucus.

Clearing mucus can help prevent an exacerbation.

Preventing exacerbations prevents lung damange.

Prevengint lung damage prevents "CF progression."

Therefore, albuterol helps with CF progression.

P.S. if you just got out of the hospital with a prior FEV1 of 73% and you have CFRD, your CF ain't mild. And shame on your doc for not giving you a vest sooner. this term "mild" makes people feel that they're somehow exempt from traditional CF treatment.

My FEV1 is around 93-95%, and i'm militant about doing my nebs and all meds. It's all about prevention - and avoiding an infection as opposed to treating an infection. You can have a big impact on how fast your lungs decline.

Are you seeing a CF doc?

I strongly agree. I am also on a schedule of neb x 4 times a day. This treatment plan is something I would def. discuss with your doctor.

Yes. I am being seen at the adult CF clinic at Stanford Hospital. I am quite fortunate. Stanford is one of the best hospitals in the country.

Regarding my self description of "mild" CF. I read somewhere very recently, perhaps even from CF.com, that FEV1 from up to 30 is severe, 30-70 is bad, and 70 > is mild. Not sure who thought up these numbers but it was the system I used to self describe.

I take 4mg Albuterol tablets twice daily so I can use my nebulized bronchodilator twice daily instead of four times daily. Each tablet last 12 hours.
