Incorporating Heat in your Treatment Routine

I went to an accupuncturist once who introduced me to the book "Healing with Whole Foods; Asian Traditions and Modern Nutrition".

In it, it talks about treating many different ailments depending on the natural temperatures of the disease or sickness at hand. It talks about lung issues being 'hot', which means a helpful method would be to have "cooling" drinks or foods. Peppermint and Spearimint type teas are suppose to be the best at opening inflamed lungs and sinuses, etc. That cooling quality is suppose to be very helpful. The book is awesome though and discusses a lot of different things to try. All in all I had a great experience seeing that accupuncturist. I had no idea I was going to learn all that I did with 2 visits.

For me coffee also opens me up in the morning.

Hmm.. Interesting about the cooling qualities of peppermint, etc. I feel like those types of thinks may stop a cough , but maybe heat actually helps produce a cough.

This is what I think about the heat:

One day I was brushing my teeth, and I tend to cough up a lot of gunk when I brush my teeth. I spit out some gross phlegm ball into the sink, and the water that was running was cold. Instead of making the mcuus run down the drain, the phlegm just stayed there, and seemed to become stronger with all the cold water hitting it. I turned on the hot water, and it started to break up and eventually ran down the drain.

I was talking to my mom about this, and she said her mom always said the same thing. That when you think about grease after it's cooked, and it is in the fridge - the grease floats to the top and hardens. It becomes sludge. Imagine drinking cold drinks all the time, and the food we eat and mucus and other stuff becomes sludge in our bodies like that , too. But if we drink a lot of hot stuff, it helps melt all that away, making it easier for us to get rid of it.
