In addition to Erin's posts, you're supposed to keep a record of your basal and bolus doses that are initially set into your pump (just in case)

Thanks so much for your responses- I truly value your insight as this is a whole new ballgame for me!

For those that have experience with the minimed-one of the things that is attractive to me about the ping is the remote-to be able to dose discreetly w/out pulling the pump out and pushing a bunch of buttons. I understand that there is a remote available for the minimed, but that it is extra-is that correct? Do you guys run into this?

Interesting I got the minimed because of the remote it had at the time It doesn't come with one anymore...maybe you can purchase one?? I asked them why they don't offer it anymore and they said that not many people used it. The ONLY time I ever used it was for formal events when I had a long dress on. You kind of find yourself wanting to look at the pump to make sure the beeps and the bolus are all correct. Kind of a psychological thing. At least that is how it was for me. I get along fine without it. The paradigm minimed used to be waterproof and you could swim with it for about a 1/2 hour. That was awesome too and that is no longer the case. That was another reason I got it.

Minimed is awesome though. There service is great. You can always get in contact with someone. They send supplies out in a very timely manner. Their service department is super. I recently had a problem with my pump....doesn't happen often at all....my own fault and I won't bore you with the details....anyway, they overnighted one to me. I was on the phone with them at about 2 min. to midnight and they had a brand new pump to me the next morning by 10 am. Now that is service.

We received a remote with ours, but like Skye said, we've never uses it. Apparently it's best functiopn is for young children and babies. I agree about the psychological thing, I'd be worried it didnt work etc.

The pump itself is very unobstrusive. You can slip it in your pocket, and it looks like a pager or phone. I dont think it's very obvious when you pull it out and punch in a couple of numbers.
