Sue,

Hang on, you'll get through this<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Good control will help everything out for you including your lungs. You will notice a difference in your energy level too. I usually feel very little when I do a shot. Not a big deal. You pinch a "fatty" area and just do a little prick. After about 8 years on shots, I went to an insuling pump. I never wanted to try it, after starting it, I wished I'd done it years and years ago. Your blood sugars stay even the majority of the day and you can adjust easily when you are on something like prednisone. Might be something you consider down the road. All my best!

I would not use a syringe, but a insulin pen. I do take pen-needles which are only 5 mm long and very, very thin.

Sue, I dont know what it is like to do insulin shots, but I do use a pen shot with my Forteo, I've been told it's the same ones they use with insulin. I found that holding a piece of ice or an ice pack on the spot for a few seconds will make the skin pretty numb. I usually use Emla cream, but some times I dont have enough time to wait for it to work, so I use an ice cube. Walmart has freezable ice cubes. They are shaped like ice cubes but you freeze them like an ice pack. Great to use in coolers too without the watery mess.

Thank you all so much. I am going to look into the pen. If you use the pen, can you still see the needle. That is what I am having trouble with. If I could see the needle when I prick my finger I would not be able to do it.

I asked my doctor about just starting with the pills for diabetes and he said that wouldn't work. I don't understand why though.

I took my blood sugar today and it was 93 4 3 hours after eating, 121 1 hour after snacking, and then 301 1 hour after dinner. I was doing fine until the 301! I thought that maybe the bump in prednisone wouldn't matter. Looks like I didn't get lucky with that
