Kidney competition

Here is my look on this show...Society loves a "shock" factor, anything thats crazy and out of the ordinary will get alot of attention...I am against giving a kidney away like this, however a person has the right to do whatever they wish with their own organs (donate them or let them rot). And I am not going to stand up and say this person can't do this, I would rather see someone give their organs away like this than to not donate them at all. The show will be crazy popular for a few weeks and then die off just as fast the way I see it.

Personally, I don't feel really strongly either way on this one. I think in a way it's already achieved what they set out to do, which was create debate, and considering it's now gone all over the world, I'd say they were successful.

I believe that by law, living donors can choose who they want their kidneys to go to. Therefore, I don't see a huge problem with the way this is being done. If she wants to donate her kidney to one of these people, she should go for it.

Sure, it might not be the most tasteless thing on the planet, but questionable methods have often had more success in raising awareness, increasing understanding and encouraging debate than their more ethical counterparts.

So finally it was a Hoax. And even though you might not like the concept of the program it had a great effect. 12.000 people sms-ed for a donor registration and all the world press was there. Unfortunately the broadcaster BNN had to make a this kind of move like this to create the attention for the subject.

I can imagine that people were fearing this program and content upfront, but this story also shows how we are influenced by media and judge too fast upfront! Nobody had seen a single second of the show or anything else and people already started to judge. The press was making assumptions it would be a "big brother" style program because end-producer Endemol made that program. If people had looked more carefully they would have noticed that the producer BNN, had lost their founder who was diabetes and waiting for new kidneys too come. So next time be cautious when judging things, especially when the press starts inventing headliness without further backup info.

Personally I am happy they did this, even though they might created some controversy, because otherwise nothing would have done on the subject of transplantion and donor registration. Thanks to BNN!!
