Pickling food is tasty but bad for CFers, such that vinegar is usually the pickling agent. With all the antibiotics we consume candida, yeast infections, and fungi alike thrive in our systems, and vinegar is fuel to their little tummies.

You don't want to eat pickled foods or similar items when you are on antibiotics or have just completed a regimen of meds.

fair point about the vinegar, but I was more interested in the qualities of the individual ingredients as suposed to actually fermenting the veg, which sounds absolutly disgusting, no offence FRed.

I guess it is along the lines of oregano oil,

I put the 'avian flu' and 'kimuchi' key words in, and found the Wikipedia even had something about it!! sounds pretty much the same thing, someone was conducting an experiment with kimuchi.

As for the link, I tried the anonymous link again, and something worse than the first time happened, it closed my browser, and opened my E-mail!!

As for the anonymous comment regarding the vinegar and pickled foods, I do believe your facts are incorrect and need researching again. I've been informed that vinegar actually KILLS the bacteria, etc. in the mouth, and sooths stomache aches (I did a key word search from your statement using "vinegar" and "fungus" and got a totally opposite result--try it yourself and see).
In Japan, they have "Kurozu", which is directly translated to "Black Vinegar", and is especially good in helping with combating exhaustion and fatigue (You can even drink it directly, cause they have it available as a refreshment! Right next to the Gatorade rack!).

Fred,

Thanks for the vinegar info. I was really disturbed when I read the previous post. I love vinegar. Just this weekend my husband and I were laughing about it, because while we were waiting for our burgers I had the impulse to snack on a mustard packet I had. He took the opportunity to squeeze the mustard packet, and then we laughed because I still enjoyed it!

Hell, in elementary school I drank a cup of vinegar in science lab. Now, technically it was for the 25 cents I got out of the deal, but I more or less liked it. Malt vinegar, apple vinegar, white wine vinegar, they're all good. And pickles rock.

I should probably look something up about this, but I really appreciate your mentioning your knowledge.

Afterthought: did a search on this site and vinegar has come up strikingly often

Simple chemistry dictates my statement's accuracy.

Vinegar when consumed converts to sugar, and Candida Albicans, yeast infections, and the like thrive when its host's diet consist of sugar. Vinegar also increases the acidity of the body, which increases the body's potential for maladies and infections.

mustard on a hot dog isn't enough to make a difference. But vinegar all over your salad or pickled Kimche, will aggrevate any existing fungal problems

I still disagree with what the Anonymous has stated.
Obviously, no one should take anything in excess, but having vinegar with a good balance of vegetables and fruits will cause more good than harm. Too much Kimuchi will most definitely tear up anybody's gastrointestines (or at least burn the hair off their B*tt!), but having it with other foods is not going to be detrimental to your health.
BTW, Wasabi is a good agent in killing bacteria in the mouth and stomach...it was used to kill any possible bacteria on raw fish...and I LOVE Wasabi!! (So does my Brother-in-Law!)
I say, Eat that Hot Dog with Mustard, just avoid the MSG!!

As for Kimuchi...I'm looking forward for my next Kimuchi Ramen meal!!
