Losing Hair

I have this problem too from time to time. It seems to happen when I'm feeling worse. I think mine has to do with my blood sugars and/or just generally feeling crummier.

Don't forget to brush your hair everyday. I know I get lazy and put it in a ponytail a lot. Remember in the old days when women brushed their hair 100 strokes? There was a reason for that:
Our scalp needs the stimulation that brushing brings - getting the blood flow going. When there is no blood flow, the folical looses grip and falls out. (This is one conclusion for why some men who wear hats a lot also loose their hair.) Brushing also helps distribute the natural oils throughout the hair helping to prevent drying.
I got in the habit of brushing my hair real well before taking a shower, I'd rather pull it off my brush than out of the drain

Girls, brush your hair!

I have a vitamin deficiency; I'm taking supplements now, but before I started them my hair was coming out and breaking too! It still happens but my primary dr says it should be better as soon as my levels even out to where they should be.

PS I'm taking~
B Complex
Vit E
Vit D
Ester C
Selenium
Zinc
Muti Vitamin

A lot of blame for hair loss falls on a persons diet. Check to see if you are absorbing the vitamins and minerals you need!

I agree with Chrissy, be sure your cf center/treating dr is keeping track of your vit/min levels.

Did you know - you need to take enzymes with your Adeks and/or any supplimental A,D, E or K?
Why did I not know this? My vit A levels were extrememly low despite my adeks and added beta carotene. I'm hoping that adding my 'zymes with vit's will help.

There is an autoimmune condition called alopecia that can cause certain degrees of hair loss. What happens is your body thinks your hair folicles are a foreign presence or danger, and so it attacks them.

When I was younger I had alopecia areata which caused me to lose a patch of hair on my head about the size of a deck of cards. It has since grown in and I haven't had any more problems.

At your next appointment, ask your doctor about the hair loss. He can order blood work that will determine if you're very low on certain vitamins (lower than what's usual for you, anyway). He can also have the lab check for immunoglobulin response, which will help him determine if your body is attacking something in itself.

If alopecia is suspected, you might want to ask for a referral to a dermatologist. Shots of cortisone injected at the site of hair loss may be a solution.
