Lung transplant with 2 living donors

Dana, this has also crossed my mind as a mom to kids with CF. I have heard of this before (Christy, was your story on the news or anything...I swear that I heard a story just like yours years ago...).

I have said for years that I want to stay as healthy as I possibly can just in case one day one of my girls would be in need of a lung, and just in case I was a match!!

My second cousin had this done almost 10 years ago. She had been listed for 3 years and they just could not find a match for her, so each of her parents donated a lobe. Unfortunately they waited to long and Casey's body was just so weak that she never woke up from the surgery. She was 15.

Thank you Dana!! I hope there is a cure for CF long before your daughter ever gets to the point of needing a transplant... that would be ideal. My mom had smoked for many years, but had quit about 20 years before the transplant took place. They told her that her lungs looked like she had never smoked, so that was a blessing. She will also be donating a kidney to me... God Bless her.... she will have given me life 3 times!!

I believe the woman who got a lobe from an uncle and a friend Jerry is Melissa Thompson. She lives in California, and a good friend of mine.

She is doing well.

I don't think she had cepacia.
