Lying down while doing nebs

My daughter, 4 1/2 with CF, does about 6 nebs a day, albuterol/pulimicort,pulmozyme and HTS. Lately, she'll like to lie down on the couch while doing nebs and watching TV. I don't make a big deal out of it, usually she goes through phases, little quirky things and then forgets about them onto something else. I know the optimal thing it to be sitting up, actively breathing the med in but just wondering if she getting the effest from the meds anyway while lying down. She doesn't do it all the time, usually in the am. Thanks!!

How do the nebs work properly while lying down? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I wouldn't think that they would mist that well.

I have always been told that sitting up is the best position as the lungs and airway passages are open more.

To get the optimal benefits from nebbing I would get her to sit up.

I reckon with 6 nebs a day that would indeed be tiring though.

Kj only needs to neb HTS and tobra twice a day

I'm always telling kj to sit up straight while nebbing and doing her physio because she likes to relax back on her pillows in her bed.

As long as the neb cup is sitting straight so the meds can administer properly I wouldnt worry too much about it. I often lay down while doing nebs when in the hospital. During one admit when I was really sick I was getting nebs every 4 hours & on O2 so the nurses just put the meds in & I breathed through the mask during the night. Its not optimal, but its better then nothing especially if we are speaking of albeuterol & HTS. Pulmozyme & Pulmicort I would think its better to sit up to get it into the lungs deeper.

As long as the neb cup is held upright, so it doesn't sputter, shouldn't be an issue. Max sleeps thru his morning treatment. The other two he's pretty good, though sometimes leans back on his pillows to lounge and watched cartoons.
