Magnesium spasms

So apparently my magnesium (sp?) levels are low and I am getting really bad muscle type spasms like in my hands, feet, and sides. I am in the hospital right now so they are giving me magnesium pills. But I guess until my levels I guess go up I have these spasms. Anyone else? If so what do you do for your spasms. Sometimes like in my hands they get so bad they hurt, and for some odd reason the only way to releave the pain is to sit on my hands stretched out. LOL maybe I am just wierd. Anyway just curious about others.

Been there, done that, got the post.

Nothing you can really do about it.
Try taking a hot bath if it's available to you.
Or using heating pads.
Sorry to say that's the only thing that helped the pain/urge to cramp go away.
I've found that after about 2-3 days it really starts to go away if your levels are up to normal.

This may help...try taking Quinine.

The Quinine I'm using is mainly for leg and lower back cramps, but even if I get 'twiches' in the hands or elsewhere, I take a few tablets, trying to keep a bottle nearby. My case is that after my Iaido class (sitting in Seiza too long) or strenuous excercise, I would get the cramps that night, or the next day.

I did hear at first it was a lack of Potassium, but I also heard a lack of Magnesium is also a culprit in causing muscle cramps.

Perhaps taking in foods with higher magnesium content would help? Or, I think there are other substances that would absorb the magnesium more efficiently in the body.

Hope everything goes well, sorry to hear after a long time hearing from you, I find you are in the hospital, again! Hang in there, Courtney!! Hope you got a laptop, etc. to pass the days!

Muscle spasms are everyday normal for me, because my magnesium
levels. I have to take 200 mg a day to keep in check, and even then
I get break through spasms. The worst are in my abdomen and thighs,
sometimes they are just a twitching spasms and sometimes they are
clenching spasms. I get other muscle cramps in my body that I take
smooth muscle relaxers for. In any case, I can empathize. I've
found that taking my supplements and strechting in the
morning/evening helps to keep things maintained.
Good luck and be well. Hope you get out of hospital soon.
I think you can also soak your feet in epson salt and warm water -- feels nice and also absorbs the magnesium through your skin.

I don't know for sure if it is CF related or not -- I think there are people who say it is.
