Marinol

I take Marinol on a casual basis (I had to pay $600 out of pocket and so I'm trying to make it last)..

Anyway, I've noticed that along with that "dopey" feeling, it seems to make my chest feel "heavy" - and thereby feel SOB to some extent. All this just discourages me from using it (and I can't use Megace - it reaks havoc on my blood sugars)

Have any of you experienced this?

I tried Marinol when I was trying to get away from Megace as well, but my insurance covered it. For me, I only felt "dopey" the first couple of times I took it, then I guess I adjusted. I don't recall feeling SOB though. It never did stimulate my appetite the way Megace does, so I stopped taking it after that first month.

A couple other things I've tried for appetite: Remeron (which is actually a very mild antidepressant, but has a side effect of making you feel hungry supposedly) and Periactin (which is actually an allergy medication, but has the appetite producing side effect as well. Here's a link for more on that: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.cyproheptadine.com/)

</a>
Hope you find something that works and has tolerable side effects!!

The side affect I experienced the first and last time I took Marinol was the fact that I sat down and ate an ENTIRE bag of potato chips in one sitting. I had no idea it was actually happening until I got to the tiny crumbs in the bottom.

Wheezie:
I already take remeron, but for sleep, and I don't wake up hungry btw.
My appetite is HARD to stimulate. I can be starving and nothing sounds good. It used to be that I could only take a few bites of something before it made me nautious. For some reason I'm past that, and can make it through most of my meal. (and I was already on Remeron through that change).

Someone else told me about periactin, which I totally forgot about. I'll check that one out.

Rotandroll: I too had an episode or two of the munchies, but it was rare. Mine was while I was in the hospital ...a few hours after dinner I got hungry and went and bought: Pop tarts, and snickers and a bag of chips and ate them all, with a glass of milk. But, *sigh*...it hasn't happened since.

Do any of you find that taking the Marinol w/ food makes it work better, or taking it on an empty stomach.

Anyone else have SOB type symptoms?
