I have read NEVER take Generic Enzymes. So, maybe you can try the Ultase MT 20. Also try taking more enzymed with meals. Talk to doctor and he/she can tell you how many you should be taking. If paying for the enzymes is an issue your clinic can give you information on getting them FREE. There is a way I believe to get them FREE

GOOD luck!

I seem to recall a few years ago, there were some pseudo generics being passed off as name brand. A couple parents complained their kids were having digestive issues, increased oil, weight loss and found out their name brand had been replaced with look alikes. In fact the company that makes creon I believe sued a copy cat company... Anyway, here's the link to the CF Pharmacy newsletter that talks about enzymes on the 2nd to the last page -- last page shows what your enzymes are supposed to look like.

I had a mild experience of what you are describing one time when I cheated on my diet. I must have eaten something pretty nasty.

Whenever I had lost weight while eating tons of food,I would switch brand Cf enzymes. I did well on all of them but every year I would notice like an allergy like buildup where loss of weight will occur. I have tried enzymes from the health food store that were better for me. I have tried Pancreatin by Kal with great success with normal bowel movements but no weight gain.

AFter transplant, I could not absorb any of the cf enzymes. I then discovered Azeo pangeon from Metagenics and have been on this enzyme consistently for three years. I also gained lots and lots of weight and it is not from prednisone because I do not take it.

Watch what you are eating and write down anything new you try. You will figure it all out. If you are eating foods that are acidic in nature then yes you will have problems.

From what I've read, Prevacid is fine to take with antibiotics- it is even prescribed in a "PrevPac" for treating H. pylori infection (prevacid taken with an antibiotic) to improve the effectiveness (somehow!) of the antibiotic... Antacids (Tums, Rolaids, etc...) that contain calcium or minerals can interfer with the absorbtion of antibiotics.

I went from taking Cotazyme as a kid (did not help the oil issue!), to nothing as a teenager and young adult (apparently, I was and am still, for the most part, pancreatic sufficent), and now I take a Viokase 16 when I eat a greasy meal (...Outback bloomin onion? ) and take Nexium with dinner, and bingo! Rarely ever a problem (as long as I remember to take them).

I have tried several other enzymes (but they didn't help the greasy meal and it's after affects, just gave me gas and made me cramp up), and I am so happy to have been given this one by my (new) GI! You may just need to keep trying something else until you find one that helps the most. Good luck- that is so aggravating!!!!
