Hi,
Julie: Mark emailed me back within 2 seconds- I really apprecaite him input! For everyone else, here's what he said:
The most important thing in the Milk thistle is that it is that it is standardized (which yours is 80%, that's great).
It should not cause any problems for your children, it's perfectly fine for a 14 year old and a 10 year old to take the Milk thistle. I might recommend though that you reduce the dosage for the 10 year old to about 1/2 the adult size (i.e. Marks says for adults to take 3 pills a day, 175mg a pill-but each company Rx's it differently). And for the 14 year old, give about 3/4 the adult dosage initially. It can always be increased a bit. Of course, if either of the kids have some really bad liver enzyme levels (I get mine checked every 3 months because it use to always be high until I started taking the Milk Thistle), than the regular adult dosage might be more appropriate.
I'm 25, almost 26 now and I started taking it at 16 (would have taken it sooner if I knew it was around) and I started with an adult dosage to get my body use to it, and then actually increased it a bit more because of the CF absorbtion problems. You may find that 1/2 the dose or 3/4 the dose for your kids just isn't quite eough because of absorption.
We're going to start it today.
