today, ROUND 2, i went in the cf clinic to get my port flushed, and all went great!!! yaye! the nurse tried once and apparently missed it, but the second time she got it in. i used the emla cream, but i dont think she gave it long enough to numb it ( 15 min ) but it still was not bad at all! it flushed great, with no clotting problems, which was a relief considering all of my picc lines would clot in a matter of days! so im so exited, and appreaciate all of ur advice and comments! thank you!
God Bless
P.S. one strange thing is that the nurse said "wow you have alot of seepage: i looked down and i had lots of bleeding from the port...is that normal?

So glad it went well for you today! I think you will love having a port. I was so hesitant to get one, but it was the best decision for me!
Sometimes when I am de-accessed, I get some blood, but I wouldn't say it's a lot. How much would you say there was?

I have a double port in my upper right shoulder.for 9yrs now, I think it;s rather samll size wise. I wld never think of being acessed without my cream, and 15 mins is not enough time 20-25 is much better but I have also used a spray called Gebauer's Ethyl Chloride (fine pinpoint spray) doesn't work as well but faster, you will feel a mild prick. I have gone though a few nurses but this last one is a gem, I get worried she will move, take another job, as I've had a few that I have just askd to leave and called the service and said send me someone with experience. I've learned to speak up later in life now. I hate needles and don't think I could ever do it myself, but bless those that can. I was so upset about getting the port felt that death cloud above me. But I was so wrong it has been the best thing I've ever done. My picc lines were not holding and I would run fevers after 2 weeks. But that much blood did not sound right to me I get a few dots, do you think you may need to add some vitamin K? I use 10cc saline followed by 5cc hephin once a month if the port is not being used, mention it to the doctor. But this is a great thing you will cut out hospital stays, as Martha says it's a good thing. I do have one question for our port people, have you ever had instant burning when the nurse pushes in the saline right before she pulls back for the blood return, ? that has happened a few times and I screamed buring, burning, I think I scared her, but with a mild adjustmento to the needle it went fine? Just curious?
