Need Advice

Ya, I am still playing hockey...I just got my first hatrick 2 weeks ago too. I am thinking this is an infection...I dont think its scar tissue because I don't know why my healthy lungs would be scarred, I dont think its a plug because I dont feel like theres an obstruction in my airtubes and my PFT's were good. My guess is the infection is causing the cough. I have some antibiotics (Augmentum) does anyone know if this would help stop a lung infection? I rarley ever take antibiotics even when I am sick just because I know if I use them alot they eventually wont work as well or will stop working, and I don't want to make the antibiotics not work when I get older and may really need them.

As Amy like to say, it's not the antibiotics that are going to kil, it's the loss of lung function. there is a ton of antibiotics out there that work, at this point, you shouldn't be worrying about resistance, you have a long way before things will stop working for you. Also just because you PFT's are high doesn't mean in can't be a plug, you'll usually get those in the small airways and one being plugged won't affect you that much.

I've been playing for 30 years. I'm in a roller hockey league now, not the same thing but ice is expensive out here, and rinks are far and few between in LA.

Hey Troy

Amox is augmentin. It is used to treat a lot of sinus issues and pnemonia. I would think u need to first get a culture to see if anything like staph, PA, or many others are growing and if so, it can tell what type of antibiotic will work the best to treat the infection.

Everyone who has scar tissue had healthy lungs at one point, my friend. This is how scarring begins - not taking action when appropriate. Don't be fooled.

This is why it's so important for you to go to a CF clinic. If you don't use antibiotics when you need them, you'll get that scar tissue, and lose of lung function that will never come back.

no it's not.

Augmentin is Amox + Clavulanic acid.

HUGE difference when you're talking about treat certian bacteria. Some bacteria are amox resistant but amox/clav sensitive.
