My daughter suffer from CF. We just got word that her throat culture came back positive with the Pseudomonas bacteria. Naturally she is on an anitbotic called Cipro. I cannot get this child of mine to take her antibotics! She spits them out and throws a raging fit! I need help! Parents, do you have any tips for getting kids to take their meds. She is only 2 so trying to explain the situtation doesn't work. Please give me some advice! Thanks!!!

Well, my children are very odd and have always loved medicine, very strange children I know. But I have had lots of friends that have had problems with their children that wont take the meds. and Cipro is the worst one to try to get them to take. It is so chalky and icky, I really don't blame her.

But try putting it in with some pedia-lite, or if it comes down to it, bribe her. I hate to be harsh with a 2 year old because she will have to be taking meds the rest of her life and to turn her off of meds at this age will just make it worse for you later on.

I know you are stressed and are having a hard time, and the Pseudo culture is scary. But it isn't always permanent. Garran cultured Psudo when he was a baby and was able to kick the bug and hasnt cultured it since (he is 6 now). I am surprised they arent trying her on Tobi if she is culturing Psudo. Just a Q.

Let us know how it goes!

My daughter has never had to take Cipro yet, but she's had to take other yucky medicine including Zyvox which tastes awful. Bribery works wonders, usually I'll give her a treat after she takes her medicine, sweethearts(from Valentine's day) m&m's or swedish fish,,just a couple after she takes the med. "A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down" I put her med in a syringe(not medicine cup) get the syringe to the side of her tongue near the back to avoid taste buds. Now she likes to just give her med to herself, what ever works. HTH

I noticed a sign in the Pharmacy the other day stating that some medications can be flavored.
perhaps that would work?
most likely a small fee not covered by insurance, but if it helps?....Priceless.
