New Diagnosis On Top of CF

I just went to see an orthopedic surgeon today.... I have hip dysplasia. We finally have a diagnosis after years of pain.
Luckily, it seems to very treatable. I am just finishing up a prednisone burst and found out from the surgeon that long term prednisone is not safe on the joints. I get to keep that in mind as we treat my mycobacteria and aspergillis. (spell??) in the future. He said so far he sees no ill effects of the prednisone I have taken in the past. Bye... Bye prednisone! (Evil grin).
Looking at possibly needing surgery on my hip.... possibly some resurfacing. Doing a dye contrast ultrasound in a couple of weeks. If we do surgery the physical therapy should not only kick my hip back into overdrive but my lungs too. Talk about a body makeover. If surgery is not needed I am hoping they put me on a "hip safe" exercise program.
No more excuses for not exercising anymore-- dr. gave me lovely new pain pills.

Damn! When it rains it pours.
I had no idea humans could get hip dysplacia; I thought that was a canine/feline desease.
I guess I'm showing my ignorance here. I'm on 7.5 MG prednisone 1Xdaily for my transplant regimen.I hope this doesn't affect me anytime soon.
Best of luck to you, please keep us posted.

It's always the good news/bad news around here. Good that they found the cause of your pain, but bad, because you may need surgery. I hope that whatever they have to do can be done without much difficulty, and it helps you feel better.

Sorry to read Mamerth! :-(
I also suffer from hip dysplasia. The best thing you can do is exercise and strengthen your body with the right kind of movements. There are better sports (like swimming) and worse (like jogging).
Concerning the pain you might want to try osteopathy and/or Dorn Treatment (i don't know if this is known in the US?).

All the best!

Dorn treatment?? I will have research that. I started being more active today. I am going to HURT tonight!!

No jogging for me... I want to start walking and work on flexibility and range of motion. I just read it is best to be in tip top shape for the surgery. I need to loose a few pounds and increase my lung function. No overeating at Thanksgiving.

My parents walk every day and they will be here in less than a week for Thanksgiving. I am hoping I can walk with them. Pain is such a deterrent to getting started. I am trying to do a few more stairs today and sitting on my bumm a little bit less (wish the couch wasn't so comfy). Hopefully the walking will kick my lungs into overdrive as well.

I need to buy a lift and buy some better shoes for dressy occasions.

Kaethe, what kind of dressy shoes do you find is best. I have flat Mary Janes but they are slippery and I have fallen in them. Walking shoes just don't work with skirts.

I have fallen several times in the past few weeks.... so embarrassing!!
