Just wondering if anyone happened to see the news articles about the latest research on proton-pump inhibitors...like nexium. Turns out that those taking them are not absorbing calcium as well as controls groups.....more fractures in hips in older patients.
Why is this important for us?
Most doctors have all cf patients on these to control acid reflux..... We already have a problem with calcium absorption, leaching of magnesium due to aminoglycosides and demineralization of bones. If you have low calcium, vit d, magnesium or any one of these...make it a point to do some research on importance of all of them in cf.
If you are on a proton pump inhibitor and have low calcium.....for heaven's sake...please, look into alternatives for acid reflux..... Research probiotics, acid reflux, cystic fibrosis, inflammation on google and pub-med
