Another ? regarding same thing, my mp3 player has a strap I use at the gym and after reading this post I noticed this mronign that the snap that holds it closed is corroding, very badly, any ideas for that? It is the snap that actuallyholds the case onto the little meshy band that goes around my arm.

My sweat is borderline normal range so aside from with jewelry that is fake this is the first tiem I have had such a problem, prbably because I have upped salt intake and started excercising more??

do people have problems like this with a ring or anything? if it'll take the lacquer off a trombone, anything gold plated is done for isn't it? I have a second horn that i only use for marching and i haven't had a problem with it during the concert season. i'll try to use some sort of a wrap that isn't leather (the leather wrap on my stearing wheel has already started to get screwed up and i've only been driving for about 6 months.

My wedding ring and engagement ring are 14k gold, and I don't have any problem with tarnish. My horn however is nickel plated and tarnishes like crazy, but silver tarnishes all by itself, as does bronze.

I haven't noticed a problem with sterling silver, but really the only jewelry I wear are my rings.

What make is your trombone? If it's a Conn or a Selmer (and you're a serious musician who plans to continue playing for many more years) you might want to look into having your t-bone treated. I know a website that offers "resonance enhancement" for instruments. That might be something worth looking into. Let me know if you want more info.

This might be a useful resource as well.

</a>Maybe make a point to clean it every 3 months instead of yearly?

Some cases, the sterling silver may irritate the skin when used as jewelry, and i've noticed when using sterling silver silverware, I feel a bit of a burn or something from it when it's got salt on it, or the salt is from me.
I did a post on the issue regarding metals and the salt reactions to it many many months back.
Gold, from 14k on up, Platinum and even Titanium are currently safe metals that won't tarnish or burn.
Aluminum, copper (or bronze), and silver have bad reactions to salts. My sword is not a real one, so it is made up of cast aluminum with metal plating. However, when the salty sweat happens to run through a surface crack in the plating and runs underneath it, it starts to rust the aluminum and it starts to ruin the sword. (Yep, now I gotta spend about 5,000.00 on a real sword so that won't happen anymore!)
