ok some research on oregano oil...

I was reading some research papers...and i came across some interesting information about dosage...might be usefull...

Ok in this experiment...they gave mice a dose of bacteria, about 5 times the lethal dose. With a dose of 325 mg per kg of body weight, all the rats survived. That is a pretty high dose. However, they noted that it didn't need to be that high, that a dose of 8.66 mg/kg was enough so that 80% of the mice survived. That's pretty usefull information.

On the oregano bottle, it said that two drops equals 60 mg of the oil. Now we know that regular strength contains 25% of the oregano oil, while the extra strength contains 75%.

So, just to be on the safe side, we could put the dosage to about 10 mg/kg of weight. The extra strength oil contains about 45 mg per 2 drops of oil. If you weighed like 120 pounds, that would be about half a gram a day. So lets say 45 mg times 10, equalling 450 mgs, times 2 drops of oil...equals 20 drops a day <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

you can adjust for body weight...just dont be too worried about taking too much. i think you'd have to take a lot to do any harm...

Cool, thanks kiel. Yeah in the begining I was going pretty nutty with the amount I was taking in. With a very high doseage I noticed my blood thinning was slightly more pronounced than when I was doing lower dosing. I was actually contemplating reducing my OO nebs to once a day from twice a day. My lungs feel absolutely amazing. Dunno if I should tempt things though. Each neb I do 5-6 drops of the water soluble oil, which is regular strength. So im getting 10-12 drops a day that way, and then one super strength OO pill per day, so whatever that is...All together, probably pretty close to 20 drops per day.

Hope you don't mind me asking, but what age did you find out you had CF? Thanks.

Ok, I'm confused about the dosage.

I bought the stuff Sean recommended "North American Herb & Spice H2 Orega"

I do weight approx (54.4kg) 120lbs, and am Male (not sure if that makes a difference)

Are you saying(suggesting) I should be nebbing 10 drops per treatment (assuming 2 treatments a day)?

You said on the bottle it says 2 drops = 60 mg and at 10mg/kg body weight I should be taking 544mg of this stuff wouldn't that be less then 10 drops per day?

I pick my thumbs and lip pretty often, sometimes to the point where i'll slightly bleed. On high doses of OO I noticed the bleeding would continue slightly longer than before on the OO, but that was when I wasnt taking a vitamin K supplement every day. Now that I take the vitamin K everyday, and just do the OO twice a day, I don't notice any real blood thinning.

As for doseage, I have always recommended that people experiment to find their "sweet spot". We are all different, so while the rat study is helpful, we are humans and have a vastly different internal system. I do 5-6 drops of the water soluble stuff in aresol twice a day, and while I have no reason to want to decrease aside from possibly saving the oil for $$ reasons, I have been thinking of goin to once a day 6 drops. Though I feel great, and not sure if I want to take the risk of my health declining with declining my OO use.

They gave the mice Candida albicans, which is a yeast -- a type of fungus rather than a bacterium. This could be of some interest anyway, since cystics often culture Candida, but it doesn't lead to any conclusions about dosing against pseudo.

You should give links to your sources if they're relevent. Makes things a lot easier.

Yup, they did...i just didn't feel like saying that haha, i figured it was irrelevant. The important thing i was trying to get across was the dosage...

i think a lot of us were confused at what a safe does we could handle, and what could be effective. Pseudo or not...they know that at a certain concentration, it could still be effective.

Obviously you read it. Perhaps next time you would be kind enough to share what you know, rather than being critical of other people.

Because what we are using the oil for hasn't been looked into before, the dosing should be responsible trial and error till you find what works best for you. It took me a bit of time till I found my personal sweet spot of dosing and application, but it was WELL wroth the time and slight $$$. Noone is going to say "Ok for cystic fibrosis do this". For steam inhalation via a facial sauna I would recommend starting at one drop per each oil that you use, if you take the capsules, try 2 regular strength per day, if super strength try one per day, if you are nebbing (preferably the water soluble stuff) start at one drop in your neb per day (in clean water - sterile, medical saline, distilled, etc). Start low, then work up the doseage till you find an area where you start to really notice a difference in all ways.
