Oral ABX

I have heard that those with Cepacia are sometimes (if not always) treated with a cocktail of oral antibiotics to treat their infections.

My question is this? Doctors give me two IV abx when I am sick because 2 abx at the same time seems to be more effective. I just finished IV's two weeks ago and have now picked up a cold or some sort of virus. Normally I can't beat these things without antibiotic intervention. Since it has been a couple weeks since stopping iv's my doctors are hesistant to try them again. I am wondering if trying two or three oral abx at the same time would be effective. As a rule oral abx do not do much for me, but maybe if I took a couple of them at a time (cocktail) it would help me get over this thing. Has anyone tried this approach before? I culture pseudomonas aeriginosa. I am desperate to start feeling better as I have had my picc line in since before thanksgiving.

I just currently finished months of different iv meds & am currently on avelox & bactrim orally. If you want to count Zithromax too, but I consider that for the inflammation.

I am also one that needs 2 or more iv meds in a cocktail to get the most for my $$.

Sounds like you probably have staph bacteria. In reading about the bacteria PA, it seems most abx cocktails used in treating are by injection only, with the exception being Cipro. I am probably out of luck.

Can you do inhaled antibiotics? I am doing Cipro with Tobi currently, and I am hoping it works for this last round of "cold leftovers".
