I try to do 40 mins. of cardio 3-4X/week along with the vest twice a day. I think the cardio helps most.

During the schoolyear, I use the gym that is included in tuition price. I use the elliptical machines and usually try to do 20-30 minutes. I try to do every day, if possible. But I probably end up doing about 5-6 days a week. It helps a hell of a lot.

ok i think the vest is great and all but personally im not into it as much anymore...i dont think it helps nearly as much as excersise does!....elliptical machine is good and all....i do that mostly now, but mostly bc my ankle hurts from jogging, i used to jog alot...and i think jogging is a lot better than the elliptical bc ur actually like jumping up and down and it is great....and tlakig about jumping..the Jump Rope, u think its dumb, but it really is hard! try and do the jump rope for 10 min and u wont believe the improvment...i go to the gym minimum 3 days a week! and over the last 3 years ive kinda become obsssessed w the gym!....so do a lot of jump rope, thats easy to do in your own home, and if u can, JOG it helps a lot..i used to getting sick often and onc ei started ecersising, the improvement in my health was maazing!
good luck!

HI, I don't want to sound too stupid here but what is/are the elliptical machines? What do they work and what do you get out of it for physio? My oldest daughter will be going off to college next fall and to be honest I don't think she does much of her PT or at least the way she should. We have tried to lay off her other than telling her she needs to do her treatment and don't forget your PT. If she gets it done, she gets it done if not she's got to see the docs. Right now she's on Cipro with instructions that if her lung functions don't improve by next visit (Dec 15) she'll have to be admitted for IV. My husband has taken to getting up early again and doing her treatment in the AM like he used to. She wasn't really getting them done in the AM most days. We had stopped doing it this past summer. I know, I know, we should probably just let her be responsible for it and see what happens when she doesn't do things right but the holidays are upon us and all. Anyhow... off the subject. Just was wondering what the elliptical machines were and how they worked for those of you that use them for PT. Thanks!

Hi! I just wanted to offer some alternative solutions for those of you who hate the traditional stuff. I HATE exercising, so it really has to be FUN for me to do it.

1st-Horseback riding. I started taking lessons about a year and a half ago and I am now a horse lover for life. It is better than any other exercise I have ever done, including running (UGH). Just make sure you tell your teacher you have cf so he/she doesn't get worried when you're coughing your lungs up after/during the lesson!

2nd-Ok this might sound kinda dorky,but.....Dance Dance Revolution....LOL. It is a video game that can be found at big movie theaters and there is also a home version that works with either Playstations or X-boxes. Basically you are standing on this mat that has arrows and you have to step on the arrows that are lighting up in time to arrows on the screen. It starts out very basic, but after trying it you will be jumping all around the mat. It is FUN and since you are playing a game you don't realize you are exercising until you have to stop b/c you're so out of breath!

Anyway, I also use my Flutter, PEP, treadmill and/or walk the dogs sometimes. But the two above are my fun exercising and I do them whenever I get the chance!!!

Swimming is an incredible exercise (if you have access to a pool). It strengthens your entire body, works every muscle, and also makes you breathe really deeply. It's also good on the knees <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Hope it helps.
