Pouch bellies

I saw this on another thread and didn't want to take over the thread so I started a new one. Why is it that CFers have a pouch (or pooch) belly? No matter how many crunches or exercise I do I still have that layer of fat that will not go away. Is it a CF thing? Do most people on here have it?

Thanks!

I get so self conscious about that around my husband. Mine is right near my belly button.
I asked if I had that when we got married (3 yrs ago) and he said that I did. I gained/lost weight a year ago and think that is a lasting effect of it. (15 pounds) and my body isn't what is was. I used to be this weight at a size 8, now I'm this same weight as a size 10. Who knows.

If I had to wager a guess I would say from years of on/off extended belly. Its sort of the idea of being pregnant without the baby. Dont know if its accurate, but in my little mind it seems logical. For me it cant be from poor muscles. I think I have one of the strongest bellies around LOL!

A doctor/nurse once told me some cfers intestines are actually larger than other people's b/c they get swollen and irritated easier, also that since we don't digest as easily things get bigger/gassier and that makes us bigger.
I'd like to ask my current doctor about that. But it makes sense to me.

Its the most annoying thing in the world. And no matter how many crunches I do or what I weigh, I'll always have a big stomach.

From my own experience, I would say that my belly pooch <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> reacts to whatever I eat. I eat healthy then the belly looks sort of normal. If I drink too many acidic fruit juices or whatever i overdo, then yeah, the belly extends to lovish handles.

I found that daily Belly dancing helps to balance out the entire abdomen. Love dancing but you do not have to actually be good at belly dancing to achieve a better looking abdomen.

I think every healthy female has somewhat of a pooch. We're so brainwashed by the media that it's normal to have a washboard stomach that's 100% flat.

That simply isn't typically female (unless you work out 6 hours a day, 7 days a week, and eat only vegetables).

So I don't think it's a CF thing - it's a female thing. A healthy female thing.

I don't know if this is really correct, but I always associated that huge pooch belly with malnourishment. I know that malnourishment can cause your stomach to sweel up like that - i.e. the hungry Ethiopian kids they show in those commercials -I guess I just left it at that because we have issues with malabsorption and possible malnourishment at times.

Just me thoughts on the issue - I have never asked a doc about it though. The inflammed bowels thing makes sense to me as well.

Take Care,
Lindsey
