Has anyone else had their child go totally nuts while on Prednisone? Aidan is 4 and is on 10 mg for 5 days pre surgery. However he is totally out of his mind on it and almost ripped out his PICC line today. I called doctor and told him there was no way we could do his last two doses. He is totally crazy on it and a danger to anyone in his path? COuld he be getting too much or is this common? I will never let him take this stuff again....

I would say its a side affect in general (from my experience), but with a little one I would imagine its worse.

I couldnt imagine another dose for him

10 mg is actually a pretty low dose of pred. Most adults wouldn't be on a dose that low until the end of a taper, unless it was an extended low dose regimine. At any rate, sounds like for your son right now the risks outweigh the benefits. I would be hesitant to write off prednisone forever though. It might not be right for him at 4 years old, but is a powerful weapon against the imflammatory aspects of CF and later on you might want to try again.

I wason a prednisone taper recently for my asthma, and it wreaked havoc with my emotions and mental state, so yes I can definitely see this. My son doesn't do well on steroids or other meds (like zyrtec) they turn him into a child from hell -- its miserable for us all. Talk to the doc to see what might help.
