Restaurants: Smoking

We don't take Emily into restaurants where smoking is allowed. Which means that I haven't eaten in a "Real" restaurant (i.e. non-fast-food) in 2 years. LOL

In Wisconsin, it is up to the city to decide wheter smoking is banned - and I know of only 3 non-smoling cities in the state, there may be more, but ours isn't one of them.

My biggest pet peeve this holiday season has been t he crowd of smokers gathered in front of Wal-Mart and other places where we shopped. I should not have to walk through a blue cloud of cigarette smoke just to get in the store, and certainly, neither should Emily. At Walmart, it was particularly annoying because they were mostly employees, blue vests and all. Does Wal-Mart really want that image? I guess they don't care.

Anyway, I totally agree that a non-smoking section in a restaurant where smoking is allowed elsewhere is just silly.

In Maine its illegal to smoke in restaurants, bars, and pretty much any public place. Which is wonderful. They are actually now thinking of banning smoking in your car if you have a person under 18 in it. Which is good that they will not be around it, but then again its a little invasive. Another thing that we have is heavy taxes. A pack of cigs. cost well over five bucks. I actually herd a think on the news today, if a person smokes one pack a day, then they spend over $2,000.00 a year on cigs. Personally, I can find better things to spend my money on, plus I'm not sucking on a cancer stick!

I am not for gov't control of individuals or businesses btu this is one place that I wish they would!

I live in MI and they are co-mingled when we visit family in FL it is so nice not to have to worry, actually once I said "non smoking please and they looked at me like I had lost my mind" LOL. We will visit resteraunts that are both as long as they are clearly divided and large enough so that I can say "furthest away from smoking" I hate it when I say that and the idiot seats me like 2 tables away, I just get up take my stuff and move to where i requested--geez! Some resteraunts in my town have switched to non smoking on weekends which is nice so then we always go there instead. As far as bars there are 2 in our area that are non smoking and they are lame, and one that is non before 9pm again lame.

One nice thing at my work they have designated spots in parking lot for smoking so its not near the entrances to get into work, very nice.

oh and while on a rant, can I say that if you smoke why bother going to the gym? These two chicks and one old lady come in reaking of smoke in mornng and somehow I always seem to be just close enough to smell. ONe morning I was jogging and old lady got on treadmill next to me and I couldnt take it so I hopped off and onto one a couple down, she looked at me like I was so rude so I tried to be nice (hey she's like 80) and I said "I'm sorry I'm very sensitive to perfume" she said she didnt have any on so I said, "oh, well it must be all that cigarette smoke then" hey I tried to be nice LOL she did NOT take it well. It was very comical.

Where i am they allow smoking but thankfully some restaurants dont allow it anyway. I will only eat at a restaurant that has a separate nonsmoking section, not one that is connected to the smoking section which to me is the second hand smoking section.... you know the ones where the left of the room is smoking and the right isnt....DUHHHHHH like the smoke knows not to go over there....How stupid and whats funny is no nonsmoker wants to sit there, and will stand in line way longer for a seat in the separate nonsmoking section where there is no smokers at all.
