i used to live in fl, but now i'm in nc and i hate going out to eat because they allow people to smoke in the restuarants. and i love o'charley's and chili's too much to stay away. we don't go often, but after we go out and eat my chest always feels tight i hate it. i wish they would change it. i can only hope though.

I complained at walmart and they moved the employee smoking area off to the side. When DS was first diagnosed, they allowed smoking on the clinic/hospital property and I'd have to RUN thru a haze of smoke to get him thru the door. They have since not only banned smoking on the premises, but employees are not to smell of smoke while working, which is wonderful 'cuz the nurses at the local clinic used to reek of smoke and perfume and I'd leave with a raging headache every time.

I will be so happy when we finally have the smoking ban in all public places here in July next year or 2009, i'm not sure...
First it was set for July 2011 cause of lots and lots of complaining. But i'm glad it was moved forward a bit.

I was in England a few weeks ago and in Scotland just last week and loved that there wasn't any smoke in restaurant and pubs.
On Chritsmas Day we decided to go for a walk in the dunes and have a hot chocolate in a restaurant/café on the beach. When we went in we entered just where the bar is and the smoke just hit me. I hate it

That being said i have to say i still go.. I try going to restaurants where they have a non-smoking section but that's not always possible.

The last year before i had my tx i couldn't go anymore. It would be a chicken-and-egg situation.. The smoke would make me cough, i would get really really out of breath that took trying lots to take lots of deep breaths to make it better. But the deep breaths only forced more smoke in my lungs, starting it all over again.

I grew up on Michigan, which they STILL allow smoking in public places. I now live in Massachusetts and you cannot smoke in public places (unless there is a closed-in bar area I believe). Whenever I go back to Michigan to visit, I am completely disgusted when I walk into a restaurant and smell smoke. It just makes me think that they're so behind the times. Now that I live in Mass, we have so many laws protecting the health and safety of people, and Michigan is nowhere near that. I know that some states are even trying (of maybe the law was even passed) that you can't even smoke in your own home if you have children in the house. That's even a step further than smoking in the car with children. I think it's great that the gov't is trying to spare innocent children from second-hand smoke. It just makes me sick to think that they still allow smoking in public places. It's contaminating the air for everyone. My work is now starting a no-smoking-on-the-grounds policy starting Jan 1st. I'm excited about that. Although most employees here are VERY good about smoking in the designated areas anyways. I can't wait for the day that all states are smoke-free in public places.
