The last time I used albuterol, I reacted very badly. I read the label and it contains sulfur (it is a sulfate, iirc). I am allergic to sulfur. I haven't used albuterol since. I had always done all I could to avoid using albuterol. I suddenly understood why I couldn't stand the stuff. But I hadn't previously realized I was reacting allergically because my sulfur allergy used to more mild. The last time I used albuterol, my sulfur allergy was more extreme, which made the negative/allergic reaction more obvious.
I have always preferred caffeine as a means to open up my airways. I used to carry a very dark chocolate candy bar in my purse for emergencies. Dark chocolate is higher in cocoa and lower in sugar than milk chocolate. I found it effective for putting a stop to a mild asthma-like attack. I also drink diet coke throughout the day. Since I have gotten healthier, I need about half as much diet coke as I used to.
