Such a Waste! Or Is It?

Hi everyone!
New member to the forums but have been observing for a couple of months now and have really been following the evolving progress on the essentail oils. One in particular of course is the OO, I've just finished my first week of inhaling the oil via compressor and pari neb. I personally really believe in pursuing alternative routes (other then The World Health Organization's legalized Drug Cartel) for maintaining the human body. So of course when I like many others learned about the oils from Sean's ongoing self healing journey, decided to do the necessary research for minds sake. Just releast from a 20 day IV/Oral antibiotic bombardment hospitalization for probably the worst exacerbation I've ever had to deal with, and when released I like many was not at baseline health. They new it and asked if I would like to recieve another 10 to 14 days of there treatments with adjustments made here and there and up this and add this and blah blah blah ..............I declined so here I am 14 days after including my first week of using the oil, and I've noticed alleviation of some of the common symptoms of an exacerbation that of which I never really felt while hospitalized.

But here's my question for who ever. I've been searching for info on what happens to the oil when its removed from the bottle. Like whats happening to the left over oil in the neb cup? Should we be cleaning it out more often then our other Meds?

Cause after one week I'm looking into this cup and dont want to clean cause I keep thinking it would be a waste, or is it............

i ALWAYS at least rinse with really hot water, b/c if you don't the germs from your body stay there and get breathed in the next time you do a treatment and that is disasterous and harmful to your lungs. i don't know i've kinda became really conscience of germs over time and being sick and trying to do what i can to avoid germs and bacteria. I'm not neurotic about it or anything but i figure the more i avoid things like that the better off i'll be. so i would waste the little extra bit of oil to save my lungs from the added exposure to more bacteria and germs... totally up to you tho...

Not to offend - but I cant believe you don't clean it after every use, even with meds! I am pretty sure that is standard protocol for all nebulizer use to prevent germs. It would be like continuing to use the same cup all week and never throwing out any excess juice/soda/water whatever even if it was 3 days old.

I dont clean my stuff after every use, oil or medication. I have three pari cups. I use one for albuterol+OO, another pulmozyme, and the last colistin. I leave all three right on my PC desk, and as soon as my colistin cups flutters start to get sticky, I wash all three of them...So I basically wash them maybe twice a week. I boil the oregano oil one separate (due to the oil chemicals) from the other two, and boil them on a strong rolling boil for 30 mins. So far this regimen has worked for me quite well. While I can't speak for colistin or pulmozyme, and i'm not classifying oregano oil as something as strong as lysol antimicrobially, remember it was shown to sterilize septic water, so I highly doubt keeping your neb in a well ventilated clean area, and reusing it a couple times before cleaning them will cause any germ problems, even your own germs.

As per your question if the left over residue is a waste, yes it is...That is one of the main reasons I have recommended people neb the water soluble stuff, because it doesn't leave behind any residue. If you use the normal oil + whatever carrier substance you neb it with, you will get several strong inhales of the oil, then not much, and then when you are done there will always be a good amount of wasted product in your cup, and possibly oil blots on your desk (or wherever you lay them when done). I thought it was just something I had to deal with untill someone else on here informed me of the water soluble stuff.

I rinse in hot water after every use, wash and boil every day. Especialy with stuff like tobi -- that stuff is so incredibily sticky that the nebs won't work sometimes if I forget a nebulizer in the morning and try to use it later in the afternoon.

Clean it out after every use. Besides the bacteria build up, the residue from other meds shoudn't mix with the medicine you put in the cup. I dip mine in a pot of boiling water and vinegar every couple days, and do a quick rinse every use.
