Thirst ??

For those who are dx with CFRD, what is the difference between a dry, parched thirst from doing work or being hot versus the diabetic thirst? Is it like a cotton mouth that no matter how much you drink it doesnt help? I will be getting a GTT soon, but wanted some feedback now. I have this got awful cotton mouth thirst that only carbonated stuff helps with and even then its short term. Whenever my sugars have been high I never had this thirst I was very lethargic tho. For those who use to or still party it reminds me of a pothead cotton mouth.....shhhh did i say that? LOL! Thanks for your thoughts!

Thats a good question Mel....i have been wondering lately too! I am also very thirsty lately and drinking a lot of water and peeing a lot. My thing is tho, that I dont know whether I drink all of the water bc I am bored...lol or b/c the high concentration of salt in the HTS makes me more thirsty.

Will be interested to see what others have to say.

melissa,

high blood sugar thirst certainly is not the same as cotton mouth. as far as distinguishing between high blood sugar thirst and just being really really thirsty, that is tough. when my blood sugar is high, i am more likely to feel "yucky" or lethargic than thirsty. sorry i can't help more.

Before i was diagnosed with diabetes, i would experience extreme thirst that just wouldnt quit. But with the thirst usually comes the tiredness.

Okay, here's an odd question: Have you started drinking a flavored, sugar free water? Certain brands I tried left my mouth feeling worse than before I drank it, but brands like Propel don't...???
