Treatments

it depends on what kind of health phase i am in generally. sometimes it doesn't matter, sometimes it does. when i am able to exercise most days for a long period of time, i can usually skip without too much repercussion. as i've gotten older, it definitly seems like i can't get away with as much skipping, though. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

i think back to dr. warwick's comparison in the new yorker article of the odds of getting sick doing vs. not doing your treatments every day. along those same lines, i think of it like sleep: you can "catch up" on sleep when you've gone with not enough, but you can never really get all that sleep back.

I'll notice pretty soon if I miss a treatment. Also, if my treatment isn't real effective and I can't clear my chest in the morning I'll feel like crap in the afternoon.

Thanks for all the info, everyone! As always, some great perspectives! I was wondering why everyone was referring to a MISSED treatment since I simply put off my treatment until later in the day, did not actually miss it... Then, I reread my post and realize I did say miss or delay doing a treatment. Sorry 'bout that. I was not saying I miss my treatment (as I can't think of a recent time when that has happened), but instead just delayed doing it. I know if I skipped a treatment I would deffinitely pay dearly for it...

Anyway, sorry for the confusion... I was mostly asking if you feel it if you don't get your treatments done at their "normal" time or wait a few extra hours to do one.

Thanks again!

I have felt that way. When I was healthier I could go 12+ hrs without a treatment (but I rarely done that. It had to be a really good reasons). If I am well I can go 6-8 hr now...but I try not to. I try to do them every 4 - 6 hours. More like 6 hrs. If I did one every 4 hrs, and total treatment can take 1-2 hrs then I would not have a life at all. When I am sick I am "begging" for one by 4 hrs. But yes, I have pushed treatments back a few hours. Depends on when my last one was, when my next one needs to be and what I got to do.

Add: Incase u were just asking about morning nebs. I never miss my morning treatments. I have always done them as soon as I wake up. plus I usually feel like crap when I first wake up due to the mucus just "sitting there" overnight.

I try to never miss my morning treatments. I feel it first thing when I wake up, so if I miss a morning, then I'm tight chested and coughing after a couple of hours. On the odd day that I do feel good, I still try to do my treatments. I attribute my good off days due to the fact that I try to do my treatments regularly.

I really wonder what makes some of us feel really crummy in the morning and needing that treatment right away and others feel fine to "ignore" it until later??? I mean, my FEV1 is NOT that good, so one would think I'd feel all gunky in the A.M. too, but usually this is not the case unless I have a cold or something. I don't know. Maybe its cause I am sicker and can't move stuff around as much, so I think I feel alright, yet its actually just sitting there waiting?? Interesting. I actually feel "odd" when I excersise too, cause many on here have said they cough up loads of gunk when they work out, but I maybe cough once or twice afterward. Again, my lung function is not that great and I culture P.A. constantly, so its not that I'm "mild" CF, ya know? Is it just all stuck in my lungs and I can't get it out and feel fine cause its not causing problems or what?!? Hmmm....

This disease and its symptomology is just so perplexing and different for everyone. Its hard to find answers in that respect. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Sonia, i know what you mean when you say its so perplexing. When i did no treatments, i had less problems coughing stuff up. I also felt a heck of a lot better, but i am guessing that is because i was doing better " in general " .
It seems like now that i have been doing the vest and using pulmozyme regularly for the past 4 years , my lungs dont know how to do anything for them selves anymore and i have to totally "rely" on those methods for clearance. Where as before, i felt just fine without.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

It is funny that you say that because I have often felt dependant upon Pulmozyme. I have been on it for so long that when I go off of it for just a few days I can tell a difference in my coughing and my breathing. I am currently off of it - until tomorrow - and have been doing okay but I think that is because I was JUST on IVs and other antibiotics so the stuff in my lungs is pretty thin and as uninfected as it is gonna get probably.
