Vision/Eye Sight

I get these very strange problems with my vision every so often and I wondered if it had something to do with CF. I told my doctor about it a while ago and he seemed a little worried but that was about it. I have 20/20 vision, so it's not that I'm going blind, but often it happens when I'm driving. All of a sudden I feel slightly light headed and get these big black fuzzy dots that appear at whatever point I'm looking at. I have to try and look slightly away from whatever it is that I want to see so I can see it out of the corner of my eye. My peripheral vision is the only way I can see during these times. If I were to just look straight ahead I wouldn't be able to see whatever is straight ahead. Luckily enough, I've always been with someone else in the car when this happens. It sure isn't safe to keep driving.

Anyone else get these episodes? It seems like a lack of some kind of vitamin I guess.

RE: Occasional Sight Issues

I know my vision has gotten a bit worse since I was diagnosed with CFRD. That being said, I've gotten the same thing before that you're talking about - I'll feel a bit light headed, and then I get spots in front of my eyes - almost like I'm about to pass out or something. I'm not sure what the cause of it is though.

I have trouble with my eyes as well at certain times.. My eye doctor told me that the eyes are very sensitive to blood sugar levels. Usually if your blood sugar is high, it can give you vision problems.

Do you have diabetes?

Did you see a special doctor for eyes or only tell your cf-doctor?
I would definitively suggest a specialist as soon as possible. Do you also have diabetes? "Bad sight" can happen with low blood sugars; the other thing is that diabetes with long time high bloodsugars can be bad for your eyes, you can even get blind, so your eyes should be checked every year in that case.

RE: Occasional Sight Issues

Wow, I was taking a wild guess that it could be related to CF. Maybe it is. I do not have diabetes. I've been checked recently for it to make sure and he said all my levels are perfectly fine.

I work all day long on the computer and can really stress my eyes out that way. At the end of a long day my eyes could be a little fuzzy (not with that big black blob though!), so I went to get my eyes checked out last year. They said I still have 20/20 vision but if my eyes were feeling stressed out and tired to get very light prescription glasses to help with the strain. Basically non of this has anything to do with the black blobs that I see from time to time. When it happens, I'm aware that something isn't right, like deficiency of something because of the light headed feeling. I have always chalked it up to a malnurished reason, but have never looked into it. I still don't know who I would talk to about it. The last time it happened was maybe 1.5 years ago and it lasts about 30-60 minutes before I can see clearly and feel replenished.

OMG, I get that too sometimes.

I was really worried about it, and I had an eye exam, and they ruled out all specific eye problems. I had a bunch of tests done too.

The only thing my doc said was that I may have a Vit A defficiancy. Which is another reason I started the ADEK.

Just thought I'd reply again about this b/c I finally found an eye doctor who could give it a name, and some of you also experience this.

Weird vision symptoms:
I'd have these strange episodes, and still do, about 1x/month when I see kaledescope shapes that move around and then the center of where I'm looking turns black and I can only see things from my peripherial vision. It always lasts about 30 minutes and goes away. There's no pain with it, but I can feel a little light headed before it happens sometimes.

It's called an Ocular Migraine. Same thing as a migraine in your head, but this is in your eyeballs. Luckily there's no pain. But how weird is that?! They don't know why you get it and there's nothing they can do to fix it. Just another weird thing.
