Hmm..gram pos bacilli...C diff def fits into that category as well as Nocardia spp. They didn't have the culture results at this time huh? At least the doc can look at the type of bugs you have and give you what they call "empirical" treatment, that is they start you on antibiotics that focus on what your gram staining showed until they get the final results back with sensitivities to other antibiotics. The doc will then tweak your treatment accordingly. Gm pos. cocci especially if it is in clusters is staph species, like Lauren said. She did an excellent job describing what the numbers mean, quantity of what they micro saw under the scope.
Hopefully the final report will shed more light on what is growing in your lungs.
