We have a large health food store nearby that carries their line. I will have to let you know if I find an online store or something.

Thanks for the compliment (that's me blushing)...I'm about to check out your blog.

I worry so much about the nutrition aspect of CF. When we were looking at how to add calories to our son's diet we decided that the food must be high quality for the body to use it (Lauren mentions organic and it is something to seriously look at). There is plenty of science backing this up but it makes common sense not to put toxins in our body when we have a choice.

</end quote></div>

True, I mention organics, but that's only in the title. The article I wrote explains what they are and concludes that they are not always the best route. If you read it you'll see why. I'm curious what you meant by plenty of science backing something up. I have plenty of access to scientific stuff, since I'm a scientist , and I have not found anything scientifically conclusive that says organics are simply "better".

You're right about the convenience foods though. They are full of preservatives and things that are tougher for the body. However, I should point out that non-organic foods do not load our body with toxins. I'm not sure what you're basing that on. A lot of the words that you cannot pronounce when reading a list of ingredients are the technical terms for chemicals or molecules. Be careful not to equate the word chemical with toxin. All a chemical really is is a product that results from a change to molecules or atoms. Carbon dioxide for example is a "chemical" that is produced as a result of respiration.

The real thing to stay away from in terms of chemicals is over-supplementation with vitamins. Although we do need to be sure to replace what we fail to absorb, the body receives the greatest benefit from those chemicals as they occur in food. Don't buy into the hype. It can make a person crazy.

Bottom line...EAT EAT EAT and then EAT more, being sure to take enzymes if you need them.

Here is an interesting answer to the topic on organics.

For me it is just a preference when possible.

Here's a great snack recipe packed with protein, Vit C and flavor. It might sound nasty and look nasty but seriously give it a try. I bet you'll like it! It's an old family favorite. I went 15 years without giving it a try and then have been hooked ever since. It's my favorite 'sick' food.

2 packages of lime jello (can be sugar free if CFRD)
1-2 cups cottage cheese
1 small can crushed or chunk pineapple.

Prepare the jello with 2 cups hot water as described on box. Stir well assuring all powder is melted and not on bottom of container. For the 2 cups cold water, start with all the pineapple juice drained from the can and supplement with cold water to make 2 cups. Add to jello. Refridgerate for 1 to 1-1/2 hours and then mix in cottage cheese and pinepple. After 3 hours this healthy snack should be ready to enjoy.

Why we choose is for our children and for the environment. I simply try to support farms and companies that demonstrate a respect for natural methods of growing (bio-dynamic for example).

What our country allows into our food supply is deplorable. Our barges of grain have been denied access to some countries in Europe because of the poor quality. We feed our vegetarian, grazing animals by-products from the same species including blood, hooves, and other unmentionables. Monsanto controls almost all of the commercial seed sources and they do not have favorable reviews. We accept levels of toxins in our produce when there should be none. Mass farming deplete the soil of nutrients which then do not make it into the food. These things are allowable and acceptable to those who produce and distribute conventional foods. These things are not allowed in certified organic products. Science enough for me.
