Yoga and CF

Partly because I like the idea of meditation, and partly because I love the detoxifying potential of yoga, I was wondering if anyone has tried Yoga.

I did Bikram a few years ago, and remember feeling great. I can imagine it can only do good for your lungs and reduce inflammation, too.

This article is very interesting, too: about a 38 year old woman w/ CF who owns a yoga studio and has given up perscription meds. (Not sure I agree with that, but to each her own.)

I'm thinking of joining a studio...any recommendations on which type to do? (Bikram, Ashtanga, etc.)

I tried yoga, but had to stop when I started coughing up blood during some of the positions. Up until then, I enjoyed it so much, especially "nap time" at the end. Have fun with it!

I practiced Kripalu Yoga for years - in fact, I am hoping to go back soon (I had to stop when i stopped working - financial reasons). Kripalu is a very gentle yoga (not to be confused with easy) - there is a lot of focus on breath work, which can be awesome for CFers. I hihgly suggest yoga for many reasons. For me, it became almost a way of life. In Kripalu, they say the practice of yoga can have an effect on the next seven generations of your family

I don't know what the different Yoga types are that you mentioned, but I think anything that keeps you stretched and limber and strong is good. As all exercise, don't push yourself, pace yourself. I bought a yoga video awhile back, but was disappointed with it...I'm looking for another one now. (Any video recommendations would be nice - I'm a BE-GIN-NER, and OUT OF SHAPE !)
Best wishes
