I've only read about the dangers of nebulized EOs. Toxicity is all about the dosage and a nebulized concentration would be far higher than an air freshener. But in general a person with sensitive lungs might want to keep the in home air particulate count as low as practical. I don't go crazy...

One note on using oils safely: don't nebulize them. Our lungs don't have an effective mechanism for dealing with oils. Inhaled oils can cause lipoid pneumonia and severe lung damage.

    question about sweat test results

I too am sorry that you have to deal with CF. Please ask all the questions you need to, both on this forum and of your doctors. My personal anecdote is that my sweat test was just a little bit over 100 and I've faired well over the years. I've been able to live a life that is full of normal...

    Super dry cough at night

My wife makes a 'tea' of water, lemon juice, vinegar, honey, and cinnamon that seems to help calm a dry hack. I think the real critical parts of the juice are the 'warm' and the fluid. Staying properly hydrated seems to always be a challenge and the warm fluid relaxes all the muscles and...

    Treatment for the mildly diseased

Day 9: I've noticed over last day or two that any of my coughing does seems to be more efficient in bringing up sputum. Late this afternoon, I did develop a focused but not overly intense pain just under my left pectoral, no idea what that would be or what would cause it. Hope it doesn't linger...

    Treatment for the mildly diseased

Day 7: Feeling back to normal for the most part. Cough has settled down considerably. Chest tightness is minimal. Still kind of tired (not atypical). I need to get out for a couple jog sessions to see if I notice any change while I'm really pushing myself aerobically.

    scared for my future

I am sorry you are feeling scared. Do you think you might be a little depressed? Are you seeing a councilor? What is your current health like; FEV1, energy level, amount of time spent in hospitals? What are your goals for the future? Do you have any good short term goals that keep you going...

    Treatment for the mildly diseased

Day 4.5: Less coughing but production does seem a little less viscous than normal. I've been tired, but my life is generally tired so it is hard to tell. I've also been getting nosebleeds a couple times a day. Also I continue to have some mild shortness of breath and a little bit of chest...

    For people taking Orkambi

Do you have the link to the FDA report? I'd like to read it. I read the transcripts from the hearing and I've read the study reports released by Vertex. Is there a different FDA report?

Have you stopped Orkambi because of side effects?

Along these same lines, I would love if anyone could report before and after FEV% for those who have been on Orkambi for a few months or years (whether you've stayed on the drug or not).

    Treatment for the mildly diseased

Day 2. Less coughing than yesterday, but still high production with each cough. I could easily win any spitting contest if called upon. I'm feeling like I'm 'over' my cold. I'm pretty tired but just a little bit more than at the end of a long work week. Coached my kids soccer tonight, and...

Elastase Test--- with or without enzymes??

If I miss a dose after a serious meal I'm in major discomfort and lose several hours of time in the bathroom. If it was a week I'm not sure I'd survive. At the very least it would change my eating habit significantly enough that any testing wouldn't be indicative of normal. I'd call the doctor...

    Treatment for the mildly diseased

Day 1. Had a more productive cough today. I'm on the end of a cold so my cough has been more productive than general, but today I had far more production than I had the last 3-4 days. I had a co-worker ask me if I was going to die at one point during a bit of a coughing fit. I told him he'd...

    Lung Function

Lung function above 70% is sometimes considered mildly diseased. 40% to 70% would be moderately diseased and lung function below 40% is sometimes considered severely diseased. But this doesn’t really tell the whole story. Lung function is truly measured in volume. FEV1 is the volume...

    Treatment for the mildly diseased

Day 0. Started my Orkambi tonight at 7:00. I'm having a really hard time keeping my hope in check.

    Treatment for the mildly diseased

3 weeks later... my clinic's nurse coordinator just emailed to inform me that my insurance has given me a 6 month approval for Orkambi (but I'm only approved for 6 months). They ended up accepting my previous genetic test. I'm hoping that saves me $400 and a blood draw (my insurance wouldn't...

    Just one day off

I'm grateful it is me with CF rather than my kids. You CF parents deserve a major award. It is far easier for me to handle my own care (especially after not really knowing anything different) than it would be to motivate and worry and stress over a child. That being said, I believe (or hope)...

    Stupid spirometer question

I didn't know much about Ultrasonic flow meters. I did some internet research and I found some good information. I learn something new every day. The following is a nice primer on flow meters. http://www.tuvnel.com/_x90lbm/An_Introduction_to_Flow_Meter_Installation_Effects.pdf

    Good news

How many days a week do you run when training? Do you have a specific training plan that you feel works specifically well when trying to balance all the rest of life and CF?
