    Another CPT Question

Do you use a percussor instrument/cup or your cupped hand for manual CPT? Which seems to be more effective?

    Manual CPT vs Vest

I'm sure I can research this on my own, but I also wanted to read some of your responses... Ellie's doctor stated that there haven't been any "side-by-side" comparisons of the vest vs. manual CPT. She basically inferred that they are equally effective and that you can use one or the other...

    Not-so-great CF appt...

Ellie's weight gain has improved...however, her recent xray showed "changes". She's only 15 months old. Her doctor said that the stage of thickening that is present is reversible, but we need to start her on Pulmozyme ASAP. As posted earlier, our insurance is awful and won't cover the...

    Take it or leave it?

I use a veterinary hand sanitizer which contains benzalkonium chloride. It's bactericidal against MRSA and C. Diff among many other "bugs" while alcohol-based sanitizers are not. If you're interested, the product is manufactured by a company called Veterinary Healthy Hands. Also take into...

    Affording Pulmozyme

We were informed that Ellie's Pulmozyme will cost us $2100/mo!! Our income bracket doesn't allow us to qualify for other assistance, but we're in debt just like everyone else. So frustrating. Seriously, $2100/mo?! Who can afford that? We're switching insurance early next year, but I doubt the...

    Perhaps TMI

Ellie was having some difficulty yesterday with her BMs...she's "cleared" most of it, but the consistency wasn't such that I would think indicates blockage. I'm not concerned about a blockage at this point, but I am concerned about the consistency of BM that does cause a blockage. If she had a...

Another one from me...PA from shower steam?

Okay, it's been a while since one of my ponderables.... We know that pseudomonas is everywhere. However, have any of you given thought to shower steam as a contributing factor to PA infection? If hot tubs should be avoided, wouldn't it stand to reason that inhaling steam during a shower may be...

    Enzyme OD?

What do you experience when you've "ODed" on enzymes? We've recently (2-3wks ago) upped Ellie's enzyme dose from 10 "beads" to 3 to 4 full capsules per feeding. She vomited twice last night and once today....still passing loose stool and acting like she feels okay. What is normal baby vs CF?!

Are there climates to "avoid" if you have CF? Have you experienced lesser/greater complications in various climates?

    Assistance with enzyme cost?

Since upping Ellie's dose up to 4 capsules per feeding, we're blowing through her enzymes! Each 100ct bottle costs us $45. Suggestions?

Need your option - separate ends of the spectrum?!

I posted not long ago about seeking a consult at an alternate CF center based upon concerns with our current center. I mentioned Stanford as an alternative but was advised by them (a Stanford CF nurse) that Sutter's CF center (Sac/Roseville) would be equally advisable in comparison to Stanford...

    Too many threads to search!

Hi all...Ellie is culturing staph (1+) and "normal flora" (4+). Just wondering when your or your child's doctors treat staph? I know it varies...but I've also learned of the theory that staph keeps other bacteria at bay (e.g., psuedomonas) and it many not be wise to treat it unless there are...

    Dr. John Mark, Stanford

Just curious which of you have children that are treated by Dr. John Mark at Stanford? Our daughter is seen at UC Davis, but Dr. Mark has been recommended to me as a "better" doctor. I have no direct experience with him, but am curious what treatments Stanford has recommended for your child...

    Long-term side effects

The NBC Nightly News ran a story tonight about antacid use (e.g., Zantac, Prevacid, etc.). They followed so many thousands of people (I can't recall the number) and found that these individuals were 20 - 30 % more likely to suffer bone fractures, specifically pelvic fractures. I'm concerned...
