Breastfeeding and sleep deprivation

Hey y'all... Abby and I are struggling. She turns into an narcoleptic (sp) when she nurses. I know she's getting enough food because she is gaining weight, however, I am getting increasingly frustrated. She nurses for 5-10 minutes and then falls asleep. I'm nursing all of the time because she...

    Off-topic -- our elderly dog

Liza, I know that must have been terribly difficult. I truly believe that animals have a way of letting us know that their time with us is over, and as their guardians we have a responsibility to do what is in their best interest. Sounds like you all did exactly what was right for him. I can...

    How's Abby

Tammy, thank you so much for the idea!! Still haven't heard from the clinic in Atlanta. I left a message yesterday around 1:30...so hopefully today. I feel certain that things are ok. In my heart and based on my research, I'm just going to have believe that her enzyme test is going to come...

    How's Abby

Bottom pic is Lucy giving her little sister a sweet smooch! Lucy is struggling with allergies right now and it is hard to tell the difference sometimes between allergies and colds...I want Lucy to start getting used to not being all over Abby when she's sick. I know at 2 that's a huge thing to...

    How's Abby

I have a call in to the clinic today. They ended up sending the enzyme test to a 3rd lab and they reassured me that we'd have an answer today. I called at 1:30 and left a message. Hopefully we'll get a call back today. The PKU test was redone yesterday and we won't have an answer until the end...

    Poopie Run to Atlanta

Lindsay, Thanks for the real life experience. It is amazing how bureacratic the medical profession is. Thanks for thinking about us! Em

    Poopie Run to Atlanta

We should know something on Tuesday. Dave had to sign a release to send the BM to a 2nd lab. The 2nd lab had to send it on to a 3rd lab. Got to love insurance! :-) Had we had the HMO instead of the PPO for Cigna, they would have done the test at Egleston's lab at the Children's hospital instead...

    PKU test inconclusive

It is amazing how tested I feel now, even though it is Abby going through all of the actual testing. The lab had to send Abby's BM sample for the enzyme test to a THIRD lab, so it will be Tuesday or so before we hear about that. I keep telling myself it could all be worse. I look at this...

    PKU test inconclusive

Ok, good news...sort of. My mom just emailed and said that a co-worker's daughter had to have her PKU test done 4 times because of procedure error collecting the sample... AND ...in Georgia the PKU test for 6-8 metabolic disorders, so...we may not even be looking at PKU as a culprit and it...

    PKU test inconclusive

Thank you Elizabeth. I just became so exhausted last night trying to research the test and what PKU was/is that I FELL ASLEEP AT THE COMPUTER!!! :-) Liz, Great minds, great minds... :-) That is VERY reassuring to hear. If Abby weren't eating like a champ I think I would be totally nuts right...

    PKU test inconclusive

From the PKU website: http://www.pku.com/ PKU: Phenylketonuria. An inherited metabolic defect in protein metabolism. In PKU, the liver is unable to convert phenylalanine to tyrosine, resulting in a buildup of...

    PKU test inconclusive

As if Dave and I don't have enough to worry about with Abby, her pediatrician's office called us this afternoon and said that her PKU test came back inconclusive and that we'd need to have her retested on Monday. Are there any cases out there that have CF AND PKU? Does anyone have experience...

    1st Appointment Clinic Run-Around?

Yes! I did go visit them before Abby was born. Maybe I should have set-up her appointment then! :-) I finally got a call back this evening to set-up her appointment. We are going on September 12. After consulting with the doctor and the RN that I have been emailing/communicating with, since...

    1st Appointment Clinic Run-Around?

Thanks for the advice. Will keep up aggrivating them for an appointment! :-) They are really nice folks, it just seemed odd to me that was the reason for putting me on hold and telling me that they'd call back when they had an answer and could schedule us.

    1st Appointment Clinic Run-Around?

Still haven't heard from the enzyme test. Apparently, they had to send the BM to a new lab because of our insurance and I was told that if I didn't hear by Monday, to call. Not a problem. Can handle that. I'm getting the run-around while trying to make an initial appointment for Abby at the...

Micro the bags, boils the water you put in them.

    I have another question!

As crazy as this may sound.... Medela makes reusable sterilzation bags for breast pump parts. Nebulizer parts are made of the same type plastics. You might consider looking into the bags. They are 99% effective for killing bacteria, etc. One bag (they come in a box of 5) is resuable 20 times...
