thanks for your replies. The insurance co said they won't cover ANY genetic testing unless it is deemed medically necessary. I am willing (if I absolutely have to) to pay for the 23 mutation testing out of pocket but I certainly cannot afford the full testing.

My son (possible CF) takes Singulair and has been for almost a year now. It does help alot with his asthma and allergies. He takes it along with asmanex (for airway control)and allegra (for sinus drip) plus his albuterol inhaler is as needed.

His uncle never had genetic testing done. He was diagnosed in the late 70's at CH of Philly thru a stool test and a sweat test. From what I can gather, they just didn't have the genetic testing then like they have now. He was diagnosed with a CF variant, but we don't know the mutation.
