    taking the preschool plunge...

I was going to put a reply, but my mom pretty much said it all. So yeah.

    taking the preschool plunge...

Not a bad idea, but I will make a point that most new parents don't get, or don't want to get.... pseudomonas is EVERYWHERE. And eventually, yes, your kid will get it. There's no way to control this. No matter how hard you try. So take little precautions if you like, but don't avoid taking him...

    Hehe look what I did!

If anyone has seen The 6th Day, they should know why any CFer would be angry about it. But basically it's a movie about cloning, and the clone-guy was giving the clones genetic diseases so they wouldn't last long... and one of the things they used was CF... and shortly thereafter said something...

    Mom to Adult CFer

My best advice is going to be pretty useless and not helpful. He's an adult, as you know. And he has to make his own mistakes. No one can force him to do his meds or therapies. You can always comment when he says "Do you think they'll admit me?" before a clinic appointment, "Well if you did your...

    CF Questions

Yes depending on the mutations people have, they can have a mild case, just respiratory, just digestive, or a severe case, etc etc. Depending on the different specific mutations, everyone's CF can be different. However, if he has bad GI symptoms, he should be at a CF clinic, whether or not he's...

    ports

Surely. The maintenance with the port is very easy. Once a month I have to access it with a 22 gauge needle (regular earrings are only an 18, and as gauges get larger in number, the needle size gets smaller) and flush it with Heparin to make sure it doesn't clot. Other than that, I never touch...

    Meropenem

I feel the same way, Caren. But a good half the time, my boyfriend does it for me. The day the nurse came over and showed me how to do the Meropenem, I taught Mike how to do it and now he does it for me. And it's not a lazy thing. If you're sick and have a 9am dose and all you want to do is GO...

    ports

Well first I must say, how can you say you don't really want one, if you don't know what it is?? It's a permanent IV line, basically. The port itself is surgically implanted. And then you use very thin small needles to access it. It's a much better line for meds, and requires very little...

    taking the preschool plunge...

The teacher nd your own child can use the anti-bacterial gel, but really don't expect the other kids to use it, nor is it important. And if another kid had pneumonia or something, sure, I'd want to be contacted. But a cold will be good for your son to get. He needs to build an immune system.

    Relationships!

If they're going to dump you for being ill, do you really want to date them anyway?

    Meropenem

I just started this drug for the first time last Wednesday night. It's an IV med. The brand name is Merrem. I'm just curious if anyone else has been on it before. I'm experiencing some lovely nausea with it most of the time, and would like to hear from anyone else that may have been on it. I was...

    Just found out....

Okay... I have to ask... how in the hell do you have CF in your arms and chest? Are you sure you have the right name? I mean in the chest makes perfect sense, but it would've startled me less to hear you say "I have CF in my chest, and not in my digestion." Or something to that effect.

what do u do when u have lost hope!

This is hard to keep in mind when you're trying to fit in... but after the 6th grade, I stopped trying to fit in, so take me word for it.... Being different is far more interesting in the end anyway. And if people won't like you for who you are despite the CF... then basically, I say, SCREW 'EM!

    How do you clean?

And they'll be better off with an immune system. They will have to be in school eventually around snotty nosed dirty grimy children. And if they have a built up immune system, they'll be far more likely to survive colds and flus with flying colors.

    How do you clean?

Keep house plants... and don't take people who tell you to clean EVERYTHING so seriously. I'm sure they're serious, but trust a 20 year old CFer over a new parent, or whoever else is in here. I didn't even read the responses. I just know that your kid doesn't need to live in a bubble to be okay...

    Harmful Substances

I've only ever had alcohol and weed. Weed I tried because I was curious and other people said it felt nifty. Didn't do it too often and stopped a few years ago. It just wasn't worth it. Alcohol I still drink sometimes. Not because it's cool or whatever, but because sometimes I just want to have...

    Psedomonas????

Murgeie.. let me give you a small piece of advice. MRSA and pseudomonas are pretty permanent things. I have them both. So keeping him out of school now really makes no sense. You'd have to keep him out of school forever for that to pan out. And school is totally worth it. He needs to build up an...

    CF diagnosis at age 37?

Don't know yet the Cipro has only been for 2 or 3 days. So far no change.

    CF diagnosis at age 37?

You're right though, with such a mild case, your sweat tests are very liable to come out negative. Try for a genetic blood test, that may be more helpful.
